After being open for a few minutes, Finale 2006 begins taking up 100% of my CPU, regardless of whether I'm actively using the program. I'm running Windows XP on a laptop, Dell Inspiron 8000-series, with 1 gig of RAM.

I've seen a few discussions that seemed to treat this as a curiosity, but for me it's a serious issue. When Finale starts hogging CPU, the program becomes unusably slow, and my laptop's CPU temp starts rising. I basically have to hit "Save" and hope the now-ridiculously-slow Finale finishes saving my work before the computer's temperature safety kicks in and shuts everything down.

Ideas?

I had this same problem with my laptop.
1. I ran an anti-virus--found nothing
2. I ran CCleaner
3. I ran Ad-Aware
4. I checked processes under Task Manager and found nothing odd

After hours of frustration, I finally opened up my laptop and cleaned everything out. Dirt and dust bunnies were the cause of my slow processing speed.

Then, I got back to Finale and everything worked like new.

Cheers,

Ron

This sounds like an old an well known issue between SmartMusic SoftSynth and some sounddrivers. If this is the case, deselecting all 8 instances of the SoftSynth should fix it. Choose instead NONE or your soundcards softsynth.
