Hello,

I would like to know how to manage Symphonic Choirs and Finale.

For example:
If you have a SATB score, can you use Symphonic Choirs within Finale in the same way you use GPO?
And if you have a score with voices and instruments, can you mix both Symphonic Choirs and GPO?

Dear Pascual,
I don't know EWQLSC but I use EWQLSO.
You can load the PLAY player via the VST panel. You must put and validate the PLAY dll.
You can load up to 8 vst players so you can load one PLAY and one GPO as you need.

Dear Francois,

I have finally bought the EWQL Symphonic Choirs (the "Play" version).

Yesterday I installed it without problems.

But I have been not able to make Finale recognize the library till now.

I cannot find any file named "PLAY dll" to add to the active plug-ins inside Finale.
Help needed...

Dear Pascual,
When you install your PLAY, the installation software copy a .dll file named: play_VST.dll
Search this file. You need to copy this file in the FinaleVST subfolder of your Finale directory.
Then activate your new vst plugin in Finale.
I use PLAY everyday with Finale 2009.
You need F2009 to use vst plugins other than NI ones.
Sorry for that !

Francois,

I have found the file :)
and it was not its fault...

It was in the Common Files\East West\Vstplugins directory.
Everything is working as you said.

Dear Pascual,

Be sure to regularly check for PLAY update. The newest one is 1.2.3, version that I tested as beta-tester.
Don't forget that everytime you update your PLAY, the updater always put your new plugin file (the play_VST.dll file) in the same location. So you have to copy the new version of this file each time that you update your PLAY, in the FinaleVST subfolder of your Finale directory. It is necessary !

Keep me in touch about EWQLSC because I don't know it, but was atttract about it. How it works with Finale ?
Do you know the word builder ? Is it works fine with Finale ? Can you automatically feed it with the lyrics that was in Finale ?

Regards,
Francois, Montreal

Until now I have only tried the generic sounds of the choir, and they sound great.
At this moment I am reading the PLAY manual.

There is another big manual for the Wordbuilder which I will read afterwards.
I will let you know about using the Wordbuilder as soon as I can.

I will take into account what you said about the updates of the PLAY engine.

Francois,

I have not yet started to work with Wordbuilder. But I promise I will, next week.
I would like to ask you another question:
I am considering either updating my GPO when the 4th edition comes out or buying the EWQLSO Gold.
What is your personal opinion about them?

Regards.

One moment,

I forgot to mention that I have tried EWQLSC as a plug-in in Finale but with generic sounds.
Not aplying Wordbuilder to sing lyrics.

There is no problem at all loading the PLAY plugin with the boys, sopranos, altos, tenors or basses to sing the voices of the score.
It works as fine as loading any other instrument from the Garritan Sounds for Finale 2009 into the ARIA Player.

Dear Pascual,
I usually use fullGPO with Kontakt 3 (K3). As I can see in your signature, you already have fullGPO with probably Kontakt Player 2 (KP2) which was wevry ok as a sample player. I upgraded to K3 because it was cheap ... and I received a small subset of VSL. The next fullGPO probably use Aria. In my opinion, Aria is ok but NI product seems to has more experiences. Personally, I prefer K3 (or even KP2) as Aria. I don't think that you obtain more using fullGPO ver 3 compare to fullGPO ver 2. I don't know !
If you are attracted by EWQLSO, don't buy the Silver edition because it doesn't have pizz bass. Release trail is a very good option.
EWQLSO are wet samples so it's sounds very good. Garritan product are dry samples so you have to add reverb.
Sad that you are so far !!! (Spain) !
F2009 is more tweak to Garritan products... but it was very pleasan to use EWQLSO.
Do you use Vista x64 ?

I am using the Vista x32.
And I have the full GPO (uninstalled) 1.1.8.3 which works with Kontakt Player 2.

I recently unistalled the GPO because my version of the library had to be registered on NI,
then upgraded from the Garritan page, then you had to upgrade the Kontakt Player
and finally you have uninstall everything because something went wrong.
I think all that has been solved and the authorization process is now much more simple.

I will update to GPO 4 thinking also on the integration of the GPO with Finale.
And in the future will buy the gold or plantinum version of EWQLSO.

Regards.

Francois,

I had managed to make possible the communication between a MIDI keyoard, Worbuilder and EWQLSC
and just some minutes ago I did it too with Finale, Wordbuilder and EWQLSC.
It is not difficult. It just needs to take some cautions.

I think I will post a word document with both configurations as soon as possible.

Francois,
I am posting a word file with the details of the configurations as they function at least for me.
As soon as I can I have to try Wordbuilder and EWQLSC with scores of more than one voice.

I was thinking of making wordbuilder to sing the "note names" of a four part fugue.
It will be like having four "singers-wordbuilders" working at once, will not that be the case?

Is there any possibility for Wordbuilder to sing all four voices?
I think not. At least just with Finale.
I do not know within a sequencer.
I am not used to them.

What do you think?

Dear Pascual,

As I don't have EWQLSC, it remains a little bit unclear for me.

First, I think that the Wordbuilder is a distinct application frome ESQLSC, isn't it ?

I saw in forum that the wordbuilder remain a x32 application. However, ESQLSC was control by PLAY which can run as a x32 or a x64 application.

Then, I think that the EW plans to include the wordbuilder inside the next PLAY version (PLAY 2)... but I am not sure.

It is likelythat EWQLSO works well with F2009 as it use PLAY. However, make the link between the word builder and the lyrincs inside F2009 would be probably more difficult.

Hello,

Both EWQLSC and Wordbuilder are distinct applications.
And both can be installed as x32 or x64.

When you have time watch the thread
http://www.soundsonline-forums.com/showthread.php?t=20964
It deals with the issue of the possibiliy (or not) for wordbuilder to sing more than one voice at the same time.
I do not know what to think of it.

I am not eager at all of having to work with Cubase or something like that.
But it seems so...

No, at least if you turn off VSTI and use the good old midi out instead in Finale :
if you connect midi out of finale towards a virtual midi port (like midiyoke f.e.) , then midiyoke out into wordbuilder in as a standalone application that will further dispatch into a standalone instance of symphonic choirs play engine.you'll have the choir singing the lyrics with FInale as only midi host... (but obviously it will play the text you've been putting into the wordbuilder, not the lyrics you write into Finale... problem is that if you want other 'vsti' for their beautiful sounds you'll need to also use them as standalone applications through virtual midi ports, since Finale forces you to choose between midi playback and vsti playback. Of course, while assuming the technical feasability of this it seems to be a step back into using the systems of the past (midi out) rather than the presen (vsti)
Maybe I'm missing it but I don't see a way to use the wordbuilder as a vsti. In Sonar the wordbuilder is not a vsti neither... but a 'midi-effect' - analogical to an arpeggiator - but more compliocated since it's sending midi to the 6 midi channels .
Would there be a way to use the 'wordbuilder' as a 'midi-effect' in Finale ?
