Sorry, got my 'f' apps confused. I meant Finale 2009 (which I actually never bought, but upgraded from 2008. Thanks again, I'll check here when I get back! | | Back to Top

I clicked on the Chord tool, and a selection box appeared at each chord symbol. I clicked (and held the mouse button down) in the box, and dragged the chord to wherever I wanted it.
By the way, are those new lyrics in the second part of the Hatikvah? It's not the way I learned it. Mike Rosen www.specialmillwork.com

Actually, I'm glad to hear it. At least I know it's me or my machine, and not Finale. I'm on a Laptop: MacBook Pro (earlier one), with Snow Leopard. I did what you described. (Just to make absolutely positive we're on the same page: I click and hold down in the little box. I can drag the chord anywhere, but that little blue line continues to hang on to the original beat - and when I play the song back, the chord is played in it's original spot.
Do you do anything tricky when you release the mouse? Are you pressing any modifier?
As for Haktikva or -voh. I will confess that I am not Jewish, but some good friends of man are - they are in a "jewish rock band" called Safam (moustache). They've been playing for 35 years. They came to do a gig here in Detroit, last weekend, and they asked me to play both the Israeli and American National anthems. The lyrics on the lead sheet I had, were very difficult to read, and when I was transferring them to Finale, I really I had no idea what I was doing. Feel free to amend, correct, whatever you'd like to these lyrics!
I went to your site in the meantime, and found some helpful stuff. Thanks. Are you an official part of MakeMusic, or just a generous & interested guy, wordworker and I'm guessing, a cappella singer (with the chordsmen)?
Thanks again for your help, Mike | | Back to Top

It sounds to me like you are doing it correctly. At this point, I think a call to tech support is indicated.
I found those lyrics to Hatikvah. It's an older form, that has been superseded by the current version. Also, your lyrics are in the older Askenazi pronunciation, where the new ones are in Modern Israeli. If you are interested, here's a page with some more info, as well as a link to an MP3 of Al Jolson singing it (in about 1948)!

Love the Hatikvah info, and will get back to you as I learn more. I enjoy learning history, especially thru the lens of music. I do know that Al Jolson got his name on a lot of music, like many of that era, just for agreeing to perform it. Looking forward to researching. Thanks. | | Back to Top

Doug R at Finale support, suggested that perhaps I sticky option key was a problem. It wasn't, but in the course of checking it out, I realized that the chords were dragging (and relocating) when I held the option key down. This was a surprise, but it works fine for me. (I hope I didn't miss documentation that told me this was how it's done.
Thanks again, Mike for your help. | | Back to Top
