Is it more samples than GPO 2.0? More techniques? Better sound?
And what about the SAM brass? I guess it's a scaled down version of the full Project SAM brass but are they useful at all?

I can only speak for myself, but, yes the upgrade is worth it. The SAM brass alone is worth every penny. The Aria player has grown up. It is still as easy to use, but you can control many more features on an instrument by instrument basis. (It also loads the samples much faster than the Kontakt Player 2.) Interestingly, you can change ambience for each bank of instruments. So, for example, you could have an orchestra with all its instruments set to normal ambience; then put a trumpet by itself on a bank and give it more echo and distance (both left-right and fore-rear) for a special effect.

Is there a more detailed list of articulations and techniques available on Garritan's site? I can't find any.

Fixes in Finale 2009c Playback • Expanded support for Aria-based Garritan Sound Libraries that are sold separately.

Those are all available in Garritan's Concert and Marching Band product - I've used them personally when writing for Brass Band. (Tenor Horns are referred as Alto Horns by us crafty Americans, though)

Pontus (Finale 2010) Hi Pontus, no non vibrato strings in GPO 4.0 as far as I can tell. Too bad. Besides that it's seems ok. I will probably use GPO 4.0 on my MacBook while I'm home or on travel (my MacBook doesn't have the horsepower for either VSL or Xsample.) Xsample does have non vibrato strings btw.
It seems it's not possible to stretch samples in the new Aria player. That's really important for me so that will force me to continue using full Kontakt instead of Aria.

It´s not that expensive. There seems to be more solo strings so maybe there is more opportunity to build your own ensembles?
