Let's say you have the Violin I part on MIDI channel 1
Click on Midi/Audio - Play Finale through VST
Again Click on MIDI/Audio - Instrument Setup - VST Instruments This should give you the "VST Instruments" box Finale Channel 1-16 probably says "SmartMusic SoftSynth" Click on the Drop down arrow and choose "Instruments for Finale" then click on the pencil icon This should open the Aria player for MIDI channels 1 - 16 Click on the "Empty" for channel 1 Choose the instrument that you want from the list If you want to add other intruments at this time, go ahead, but make sure that the channel that you choose to set up the instrument is the same MIDI channel that is used in the Finale Instrument Map, otherwise you will have issues. Close the Aria window and close the VST Instruments box. Just remember that you can mix SoftSynth instrument and Garritan instruments, but not in the same bank of 16 instruments. Make sure to assign the Garritan instruments to the same channel that you had originally assigned them in the Finale Instrument Map, or you won't hear the right sounds. Don't assign MIDI channels 10, 26, 42, 58, 74, 90, 106, or 122 for regular instruments when using SoftSynth Instuments because those channels are reserved for percussion instuments, but when using VST instruments, you may use these MIDI channels for any instument that you want.
