Hi,

I work with F2010. I have created a score , and now I want to assign garritan sounds. In the manual, it says to create a new score using a Garritan ensemble, then copy paste the whole score. Is there a way to just assign the garritan sounds I want in the score I already have?

When I select Play through VST, then change sounds on the staves, I get as a result that all the staves changes to the new instrument I selected...

Thanks for the help

Of course you can cnange freely from VST or MIDI devices, but there is no "auto-selection" made from one method to the other. You must select the VST device and its patches manually in the Aria player.

If all the staves change when you change an instrument, it is probably because they are all set to the same channel. Make sure that each stave has its own channel.

if you've composed to soft-synth voices and then convert your score to Garritan voices, you will go "Ech!" and will have a lot of work to do. Better to compose to the Garritan voices from the beginning.

A lot of work???? Let's see, a full orchestra score I can manually load all instruments in about 4-5 minutes. I don't consider that a lot of work.

Just a lot of work if you have never done it before.

Let's say you have the Violin I part on MIDI channel 1

Click on Midi/Audio - Play Finale through VST

Again Click on MIDI/Audio - Instrument Setup - VST Instruments
This should give you the "VST Instruments" box
Finale Channel 1-16 probably says "SmartMusic SoftSynth"
Click on the Drop down arrow and choose "Instruments for Finale" then click on the pencil icon
This should open the Aria player for MIDI channels 1 - 16
Click on the "Empty" for channel 1
Choose the instrument that you want from the list
If you want to add other intruments at this time, go ahead, but make sure that the channel that you choose to set up the instrument is the same MIDI channel that is used in the Finale Instrument Map, otherwise you will have issues.
Close the Aria window and close the VST Instruments box.
Just remember that you can mix SoftSynth instrument and Garritan instruments, but not in the same bank of 16 instruments. Make sure to assign the Garritan instruments to the same channel that you had originally assigned them in the Finale Instrument Map, or you won't hear the right sounds. Don't assign MIDI channels 10, 26, 42, 58, 74, 90, 106, or 122 for regular instruments when using SoftSynth Instuments because those channels are reserved for percussion instuments, but when using VST instruments, you may use these MIDI channels for any instument that you want.
