I'm getting lots of crashes when trying to use Speedy Entry w/a MIDI keyboard in 2010a and I was not having this problem with the shipping version. It doesn't matter if I'm using MIDI or VST for playback. I've reported one specific crash that happens 100% of the time to tech support but I'm forced to remove 2010a and reinstall the shipping version because I have way too much I have to get done today. Those of you that use Speedy w/a MIDI keyboard might want to wait for 2010b to install a patch.

I'm not having any problems at all; works just fine, and, in fact, faster than my original 2010 DVD setup.

I'm on a deadline and just don't have a couple of hours to spend troubleshooting this. 2010a is gone and the shipping version is reinstalled. The file that was crashing 100% of the time in 2010a when I tried to use Speedy Entry is working fine in 2010. I have no idea if this was a file-specific problem but I've sent it to tech support. I'm not experiencing any crashes at all with the shipping version.

Try deleting your FINMIDI.INI file and restarting Finale 2010a so that a new one is created for you.

Thanks, that's what Tech Support recommended too. Unfortunately I have way too much to do this weekend (on 2010) so I'm not going to risk using 2010a again until next week.

I had a similar problem with the shipping version that was related to the audio drivers. With the ASIO drivers selected 2010 would crash every time I tried to input a note using Speedy w/a MIDI keyboard. Switching to DirectSound fixed the problem. Unfortunately 2010a crashes no matter what I have selected for my audio drivers. Bummer.

Ok, I finally discovered the bug. In 2010a if I set MIDI Thru to Off, the program crashes as soon as I try to input a note using a MIDI keyboard in Speedy. Can anyone else reproduce this? It works fine in the shipping version of 2010.

I had the same thing with Finale 2010a!
I just posted it at Finale's support, and I did a fresh install with Finale 2010. (but NOT Finale 201a!!)
Now everything is working fine again!
I had also trouble inputting notes within speedy entry and that is solved also.

I have a similar problem...

I created my drum part using a MIDI sequencer, then imported the file in Finale 2010a. Now one of the snare I used was Eb2, and in Finale, it appears very low in the staff. If I click on the note, then use the arrow to bring it up, I get a crash so bad, Finale won't restart. I have to reboot the laptop...

Hi Herbert,
Please follow it up w/tech support. I'm getting the "we can't reproduce it here" response right now. It looks like you're on XP. I've gotten this bug w/Vista and Win7 but hadn't tried it w/XP. It's 100% reproducible for me. As soon as I turn MIDI Thru off, 2010a will crash when using a MIDI keyboard w/Speedy. I've uninstalled it and am back using 2010 for now.

Fred,

I tried it (also 2010a and Vista). Exactly the same problem, Finale crashes every time I enter a note in Speedy, with Midi thru off. 100% reproducable!
I also have other midi problems (see other thread), so I am getting back to 2009.

Hi Hans,
If you haven't already, please report this to Tech Support and hopefully they will get it resolved soon. I checked your other thread and I too had problems with notes getting "stuck" while inputting with MIDI Thru on in 2010a, that was one of the reasons I wanted it off. (I usually turn it off anyway and just use my keyboard sound while inputting.) I'm not having any problems with the shipping version of 2010 though. You can deauthorize, uninstall 2010a, and reinstall 2010 if you want to rather than go back to 2009.
Best,
Fred

Hi Fred,

I sent a message to Tech Support about this problem. I did not use 2010 yet, because I had installed the 2010a-version  immediately after 2010. I will give it a try, thanks for the suggestion!

Hans

Chiming in here,

I also am experiencing crashes when entering with Speedy Entry. It is not a 100% of the time thing. I can go for several measures and then, after clicking out of the measure to use a different tool, when I come back to speedy entry, it often crashes upon the entry attempt. 2010a here. XP.

I have just encountered another crash issue.

in Studio view (with the instrument panel on left), then clicking Hyperscribe, THEN, click in the measure up at the top, for the purpose of tapping in tempo fluctuations, I get a crash 100% of the time. This is new. I've done the tap tempo fluctuations thing before with 2010a and had it work.

I have had very, very good fortune with Finale upgrades, but this time, I am having issues. I sympathize with those who have had them for yearsrs.

Hi All,

We have been receiving reports of this as well in Customer Support, and I have been following this thread over the past few days.

We are very interested in finding the cause of this crash (we have not been able to reproduce this in house yet), and it would be great if anyone on the forum experiencing any odd crashes using Speedy or Hyperscribe after applying the 2010a update to please submit a support case.

We can obtain some specific system information and diagnostics then so we can try to find the cause of this.

A support case can be submitted here:

http://makemusic.custhelp.com/app/

Thanks!

-Justin

I too am experiencing issues related to this. Notes will "sustain" for a long time after I've released them on the piano keyboard, and thus Finale will input them when I hit numeral keys on the PC keyboard in speedy entry (as if I were playing them, but I am not). The only way I can get it to stop this is to click off of any measures in the piece, so that no measure is selected; this stops the sustain. I then can re-click the measure I have been working on to get back to work. While this is simple enough, it is frustrating, and happens about every other measure... so time consuming!! Just like others, these issues did not occur until I installed the 2010a upgrade.

I have submitted a support case, so hopefully this issue will be resolved soon.

Thanks everyone!
