I want to have the entire orchestra decrescendo simutaneously. I have notated this by using the graphic decrescendo in each part individually, and then placing a pianissimo or piano dynamic at the end of the decrescendo. This is very time consuming, and by the time I finish placing all of the graphics and lining them up correctly, I forget the melody I am trying to write. PM does not come preloaded with the dim expression which would be much easier. I can create the expression, but it will not play back if I do that. Is there some way to do this for a whole measure stack by selecting a decrescendo once? If not possible in PM, how far do I have to upgrade? Matthew, Composer, Violist and Guitarist

Dare I say that if you are forgetting the melody you are writing, then you are working in a Bass Ackwards manner. Enter the notes and forget about inserting dynamics until you are finished entering notes.
It's a tiny bit like building a house. You don't put the trim on before the gyprock is up. And you certainly don't try and decide on a paint scheme before you've actually designed the plans for the house. Qc, I know I work in a bizarre manner, but it has worked for me for years. Kind of sucks that I have to spend $400 to get the ONE feature I need. (Actually, it's several, but it could be just one) Matthew, Composer, Violist and Guitarist

By your own admission, it is not "working for you" since you are having trouble getting your material down on paper.
I would highly suggest you alter your work methodology and change it for one that is guaranteed to give you a more productive work flow and also take advantage of the software's capabilities, instead of asking how to get the software to work in a less efficient manner. Also I assume that HP, being a tin brain does not do intelligent things like recognising that dim is the same as dim. (with a full stop); if I remember correctly it is given in the HP dictionary with the full stop, so that is probably necessary to get it to work. I've never checked this, but I've always made sure to spell it as it is in the dictionary, and it works for me. It also helps if you have target dynamics at the beginning and end of the dim.

No, but adding articulations and trying to ALIGN hairpins (quote: "placing all of the graphics and lining them up correctly") before having finished the compositional process of a phrase of music (by your own admission "I forget the melody I am trying to write") is not working in an efficient and productive manner.
Lining up of elements and the minutiae of CLEAN notation should not be your focus if the compositional process is barely begun.
