I am having trouble with my MIDI in drivers and I don't know what to do.  I had no issues until I upgraded to Finale 2009, and even then I didn't have issues for the first couple months.  I just upgraded to Windows 7 so I suspect any tech support will blame that.  This started before I upgraded to Windows 7 so I'm convinced it has nothing to do with it.

Windows 7
Finale 2010a
M-audio USB interface

I get one session of putting in notes and then any attempt to continute closes the program.  The only solution is to unplug the USB cable for the midisport and refresh the diver.  I have updated the drivers, using the most recent Vista drivers.

Baiscally I'll put in a few measures, stop to do something else with articulations and then the next time I try to put in any notes it crashes Finale.  Then, Finale won't open again until I reset the driver.

HELP PLEASE

Even if you can just suggest a better MIDI interface.  I've used this one for a while but perhaps it's just time.

Thanks,

Scott

I've ditched M-Audio, as they are hopelessly slow at releasing new drivers. You say the problem started before W7, but you are now running Vista drivers on W7, which may not help matters.

I've bought a Roland Edirol FA-66. Can be powered by FireWire, all the inputs and outputs you could need. Couldn't be happier.

no firewire....does it support USB?  I should have mentioned that it's a laptop computer.

I am convinced now that this is a vista/7 issue concerning the fact that you no longer have control over the default MIDI devices from the control panel.
