I've been running 2007 under Vista 64 for a year and a half or so.  It wasn't perfect (lots of playback problems) but it was OK.

Well, my motherboard died last week and I replaced it and re-installed everything, including Finale 2007.  However, the installer now crashes when it gets to the part where it installs the GPO library.  Also, the program, itself, crashes when it loads up - right after the dialog where you set up the MIDI connections on the first run.

I don't recall what I did to make it work before - I've been through all the "run as administrator" and "run in compatibility mode" tricks.

Any help out there?

Thanks,

Check the motherboard manufacturer's website for BIOS updates and any other updates that they may have on their website for your motherboard. Install whatever updates are available. Make sure that all the Vista updates from the Microsoft Windows Update website are up to date. Best place to start. If it still gives you problems, open a case with the support centre.

Both of these might be related to audio drivers. Do you use the built-in audio, or a PCI audio card? I would guess it's a add in card. Try disabling in the BIOS the onboard audio...

Figured it out - somehow my computer clock was set to the year 2040 during the install process.  Explain that one to me...  I set it back to the correct date and now it runs fine.  Well, it runs as fine as it did before I replaced the motherboard :)

Just out of curiosity I went back and searched for all files that had a date of 2010 or later - the first ones that showed up were the Finale install files with dates of, you guessed it, 2040.  So either the Finale installer did something to my system date or it's a really weird coincidence.

I've had date problems with Finale in the past - I had an install on a notebook that constantly required re-authorization because it was confused by the date.  It all reeks of very sloppy coding...

Thanks for the replies, though :)

More likely, the motherboard had a date of 2040 in it.

I thought that too - that's why I checked the dates on the files.  I could track everything I re-installed: the drivers show up with the earliest dates, then other apps, etc, but all had the correct dates.  Then there was Finale 2007 with a date of 2040!

The fact that the other files showed up with the correct date shows that I did, in fact, change the date when I first re-installed Vista.  Then it got changed during the Finale install... weird...
