Ok, to start let me explain that I'm not terribly well educated with site reading or music theory, so my questions may sound a bit naive. But ok, here goes. I'm trying to transfer music from some sheet music I have and I've ran into some snags. For one, in my sheet music there is a dotted half note under a quarter note. I looked in the help section and figured out that you need to layer the notes with the buttons 1-4 in the bottom left. Well I got pretty far with that until I came to a measure with a quarter rest and then the dotted half note under the quarter note. This time it would not let me layer. Can you help me get around that?? I tried putting another quarter rest in the second layer, but that kind of threw everything off and out of order. :(
Now my second question! This one will probably sound even more uneducated than the first. In my music, the bottom piano line (the bass cleff line) switches to the normal cleff note in the middle of the page, in a new measure. And I'm not sure how to accomplish this with Finale NotePad. Any answers??
Thanks!

Welcome, Danny!
Are you looking for something like what is attached?
1. Enter the quarter rest in Layer 1 and the rest of the notes that should be in Layer 1
2. Enter a quarter rest in Layer 2 and then hide it by typing "H" when the rest is highlighted
3. Enter the dotted half note
4. Highlight the quarter rest (ctrl-click with the Simple Entry Tool) so that it is highlighted purple and use your down arrow key to move it down.
In higher versions of Finale:
Depending on how you are going to use layers (regarding avoiding collisions of entries) there is a setting where you can also go to DOCUMENT -->DOCUMENT OPTIONS -->LAYERS and uncheck "ADJUST FLOATING RESTS BY:___". This will allow for the rests to stay in the middle of the staff. If you check this they will then go back above/below the staff. It is best to manually move it like I mentioned above if you are only needing this for a few sections. This would be one way to get what you need. Feel free to download the DEMO of Finale to check that option out.
Hope that helps.

And concerning your second question, Notepad will not let you change clefs in the middle of a piece (nor can you change key signature or time signature).
