Hi, all. One of our main Finale uses is as an "accompanist" for choral rehearsals. I've taken advantage of the Garritan Aria sounds to improve the tonal quality on playback.

I have a question about track volume. When I set up a channel to playback through the ("Steinway") piano, the Virtual Channels screen has that channel default to about 60% volume (on the slide control button). I can manually move this volume level up or down -- but I can't get it to stick anywhere but at that 60%-ish level. Each time I cue playback, it plays the piano tracks quietly, until I mouse over and move the sliders again.

I hope I've explained the issue clearly. I know that others have been on here writing about volume issues with 2009 playback. This might be related to all of that; I'm not sure. I'm wondering if any of you know if there's a fix I can do (on program setup, or somewhere or other) that would free up these controls.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Michael. I don't think you can save any adjustments to the Master Volume, only the individual channel volumes. I found this in the manual for 2009, it explains better than I can:

If you set the master volume in Finale too high, the sound often becomes distorted. If this happens to you, the first thing you should do is open the mixer and drag the master volume slider down - a level 64 or lower is recommended. If this makes Garritan playback too soft overall, you can compensate by turning up the system volume and/or the volume on your computer speakers.

In the Plackback Settings, change the base volume - it's probably set to 64 and overwrites your changes each time you play.

Thanks to both of you. The problem is actually in Garritan, and specifically with the Steinway piano; other instruments seem to be able to stay where I put them, volume-wise. I'll keep trying. Thanks again.
