Hello,

Maybe its just me, but I'm get really annoyed when I open finale and find my palettes and backgrounds have returned to their defaults. Is this bug ever going to get fixed because I am tired of always having to fix my settings.

When you have everything the way you like it, "Save Preferences". I think it's probably under the "File" menu.

Interesting. I've had this problem since F2006. I've tried:

* Changing the offending color BMP file (light-brown, sandy color) to white, as I want it. That didn't work.
* Writing a script to change it back to my preference. Finalescript stops before it loads Palettes and scripts. I think that, too, may be a bug in F2007. Maybe my script will work for you:

//Reset Background
Menu item "Program options"
Press "Palettes and Backgrounds"
Press "Solid Color" near "Document window background"
Press button "ok"

Interesting. FinMac2011 is the first version to have been bitten by this bug, although it only affects the tool palette. It remembers the palette size but the icons have returned to their default positions, even though Tool Set 1 is selected. Reselecting it (and leaving Finale running) works.

I do not have this problem in Finale 2011. I did for a while in Finale 2006 but when I upgraded to 2009 it was fine. I set my toolbar when I first opened 2011 and everything stays in place.

You should have started a new topic - why don't you do that.

Meanwhile, do you mean "compress" rests? Can you explain? I'm not understanding.

And I thought someone had posted the Ultimate Fix for this old, nagging problem.

Sorry, Vincent, but the expression 'compress rests' doesn't really mean anything and we'll only be guessing what it is you're trying to do. Could you perhaps attach a file? Maybe you could use the expression in your mother tongue; I'm sure someone on the forum will understand and be able to answer.

Do you mean something like the attached? If so, go to the Help file index and look up "multimeasure rests" and, if you still have trouble, come back.

If not, describe why you want to compress rests or what creates the need to compress rests.

When you get to MakeMusic Forum > Public Forums > Finale - Windows
there's a NEW TOPIC button near the top on the left. Posting a new topic helps others and yourself. Someone who might be able to help you but is not interested (or no longer interested) in "Palettes and Backgrounds" will never see your question this way. You really don't want to do that.

Jeanne,

Your entries for 3 and 7 measure mm rests did not show up properly. You might want to check it!

Grabbed from the Help file! Looked a little odd, but I never do multi-measure rests.

What shall we do? I could crop down to the last one which is the sort of thing I've seen before. I'll be back.

Actually Mike, the Help file image was not wrong. This morning I realized what those odd symbols were. (Yesterday was a marathon here.)

I'd seen them but not in this context. They are single and double whole rests. Document Options gives you the option of using symbols up to a specified number of measures' rest. See attachment, which reflects the defaults.

The only thing is that Finale puts the number of measures of rest above the measure no matter which approach you take and I haven't yet found a way to eliminate a number over the symbols.
