I'm sure this question has been asked before but I could not find it on a search.

I have been using Finale 2010 for about half a year. The pages would always scroll during playback. I took about a three month break from using Finale, and now when I playback there is no scrolling. On the playback preferences the checkmark is filled in for scroll during playback, but it still doesn't scroll. Is there something I'm doing wrong? It's really hard to write music when the pages don't scroll for me.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Is the green line going, but not changing to the next page? How about in scroll view?

Are you starting playback with the playback controls or by Ctrl-clicking? The latter won't scroll.

thanks for writing back. I'm not doing it any differently from when I used to a couple months ago and it scrolled fine then. I must have clicked some button that turned it off. When I open a new file it doesn't scroll either.

I'm not hitting control-click. I'm just clicking play on the playback controls. And there is no green line. It just stays on page 1.

I also noticed that the measures are not counting up as the music plays, and the clock that measures the time of the piece is not counting up either.

thanks for your help.

Is "Scrolling Playback" checked under Playback Settings?

Zuill's question could be quite important. When you choose other views from the VIEW menu, do you see the playback cursor?

You hear audio but don't see the cursor? You hear the music on Page 2 while Page 1 displays?

I have precisely the same symptoms as airgordon and in all essentials the same setup: windows 7 64-bit, which is probably the problem, but I haven't got weeks to spend on the phone with Microsoft explaining why I reinstalled win7 as 32-bit .

Scrolling playback doesn't work in scroll view or page view, no green line, no counters.

"Scrolling playback" is checked. Launch via playback controls.

It used to work and the only difference is that I didn't launch Finale for a couple of months.

If re-registering Finale were not such a violent hassle, I would simply wipe it off the machine and reinstall it.

I also have the problem outlined by airgordon. I note that no solutions have been posted. This problem happened to me once before, and somehow resolved itself after a few days. I would prefer, however, to know what is wrong and how to fix it, if that knowledge is out there.

Thanks, and I look forward to your help.

Hi all,

A few things can resolve this:

1) Restart the computer.

Occasionally odd things can happen after long periods without a restart or if Finale has been open for a few days.

2) Update your drivers.

Try visiting your computer manufacturer's support website and download the most up-to-date drivers available for your sound and video card. If you have a third party sound or graphics card, visit that manufacturer's page for the update.

3) Try running Finale in admin mode if on Windows Vista or Windows 7.

-Locate your Finale 20xx icon
-Right-click the icon and choose "Run as Administrator"

If none of these suggestions help, I would send a support email to our team at the link below. Please include a description of the problem and one of our agents can take a deeper look at the computer.
