How do you like to work in Finale?  I'm just curious to see the placing of the toolbars, which toolbars you use, and etc. for people that have used Finale for a while.
Post a screenshot.  Mine's below.

I never put tools on the sides of the screen. I have a 24” monitor and I like to see as much of the score as possible. I have started to use two monitors, dual desktop, which is nice but does not work great with Finale. One issue is the pop-up menus come up right in the split of the two monitors.

On my 25" monitor, using 1920x1080 resolution, I use the top of the screen to put these tool bars/palettes side by side. from left to right:

1) Main Tool Palette
2) Advanced Tools
3) Playback Controls
4) Layout Toolbar

Otherwise, at the bottom/center of the screen, when used only, I "dock" the Smart Shape Tools, and the Special Tools windows. As I typically work on transcriptions from digital images, I use two windows split vertically (to allow the full width of the Finale window still to be available for the tool bars/palettes). I keep Finale at the top, and I typically use Graphic Workshop Pro in the bottom half of the screen.

I only open up palettes and tool bars when needed.

I have a fairly small monitor. I managed to have most icons on display all the time. The bottom row goes away when I'm not using Simple (which is most of the time).

I use no toolbars. I use Quickeys and have shortcuts for all tools. Some do pop up, but they go away and I don't click on them.

Left monitor in landscape mode, right in portrait, both 24" (1920x1200). Generally I use the right monitor as a document holder, except when doing page layout - then I stretch Finale across both for more real estate (see attached).

woodwind specialist and doubler - Finale 2011b using Speedy Entry - no capslock, GPO 2nd ed. Full version, Garritan Jazz & Big Band, Garritan Concert and Marching Band, Windows 7 64-bit SP1, 4GB RAM, Soundblaster Audigy II zs

If the composer says in effect to the performer: "I do not care whether you perform my music or not," we cannot argue the matter. But if he indicates: "I want you to perform and respond to this music," then his fundamental duty is to write his music so that it is accessible to interpretation. When the performer cannot approach the composer's meaning because of capriciously obscure notation, he may in effect say to the composer: "Why should I bother to puzzle out your music?" - Gardner Read

This is my preferred layout. I have notes and equivalent rests aligned at the top--and special tools down the right side.

How I work with a 24 inch portrait monitor. Similar with 27 inch.

Special Tools would appear vertically on the left if I pressed the appropriate keyboard shortcut. I also have shortcuts which I've set up for the eight main tools which I use most frequently.

I work with tools on the right and left. I try to keep my workspace uncluttered. Sometimes I tilt my monitor vertically and work in portrait mode.
