I have a problem with the window (of a large orchestral score) not allowing expansion over two monitors. I use two screens because of the size of orchestral scores, to save time and see more parts, but this new programme seems to want to default back to one screen. If I bring the window down a little to show the bottom bar in the second screen, then it will expand, BUT then jumps back to one screen when I try to use speedy entry!! I would be grateful if anyone has any idea why this is happening, and have a solution, of course. Finale suggested using Apple 'Extended Display' but I was already using that, and have been with earlier Finales for years, so that is not the problem. I am using Mac Pro Quad with OS X 10.7.5 Thanks Brian

Have you tested any other apps? That would test whether it is Finale or the OS as a whole.

You say you're on 10.7.5? In Mavericks, each monitor is a separate display Space unless you deselect a preference in System Prefs. But that's new to 10.9. Earlier versions should treat the whole display area as continuous. Or contiguous.

How are your Displays arranged? One on top of the other? Or side-by-side?

Deselect what preference Wiggy? I have mavericks, and would like to go back to the old way.

Mission Control > Displays have separate Spaces.

Bear in mind that if you turn this off, then you can only have Full Screen in your main monitor, and the other one is black linen.

I rather enjoy it: I can have Finale full screen in one monitor and Preview full screen showing a PDF of the manuscript in the other.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have the two monitors on my desk physically next to each other, of course, but they are configured in the desktop (in the Displays thing) as if they are on top of each other, so that I have a continuous view of a large score from piccolo to strings. I have just made myself work with that orientation. I have been using this for years now with Finale 2007 and 2011 without any hint of trouble. Sorry - don't know what Mavericks is. As you say, the display has in the past treated the two screens as one. I have just been working on another piece with 2011 and it works fine with that. Is that what you mean with another app. It works fine with Mail, and Word, Excel, and others that I have just tried. I have checked the "Displays" in System Preferences, and they are still aligned one on top of each other, which was how I was able to work this afternoon with Finale 2011. ?? I suppose it is a bug, is it? Finale don't know what to say. Thanks Brian

Me again - I just tried expanding Safari window, and the same thing happened. After expanding it reverted back to one window. Is this significant? Thanks Brian

Brian

It does seem weird that Finale should resize when you use Speedy Entry. Are you sure you don't have any other window-releated third-party software, like BetterSnapTool, for instance?

Mavericks is the latest version of OS X, btw. I haven't tested your issue, because I've got my setup configured as two separate spaces. I might give a try and will get back to you.

No, I don't. I don't even know what that is. Thanks for thinking about this for me. Brian
