Hello,

is it possible to run an VST Plugin with Finale 2003.
Especially the Edirol HQ-Orchestra Plugin!

Not at this time.

You can run Garritan Personal Orchestra with Finale. (Because Gary Garritan and his team of programmers had enough foresight to write a program that you allows you to do this) Finale 2005 Human Playback supports GPO too so it would be worth your while to sell the Edirol Orchestral module and pick up GPO. GPO sounds better than HQ-orchestral anyway so you would be upgrading, not downgrading.

I would bet that Finale will support DXI and VST in the next release. They would be silly not to! This would increase sales immensely since there are so many people that have soft synths.

I know this thread has been dormant and sporadic, but I just found a fairly decent answer to this situation. I have a call in to Finale Windows support so they may give me a better answer, but for now this works great.

I am using Finale 2005 and the full version of Native Instruments (NI) Kontakt software sampler. The problem was that I couldn't select the sampler, or any VST software sampler / synthesizer instrument as an output source in Finale so that Finale scores would play through Kontakt. I finally found a software solution to this issue.

I downloaded a free (donation-ware) program called MidiYoke from www.midiox.com. The install was a little strange since it's software that gets installed as a hardware device. Full and clear instructions are available on the site though so even I could get it working. rolleyes

MidiYoke acts as a MIDI patch bay. After it's installed it shows up as a MIDI device in Finale or (any Windows software). You simply tell Finale to output to MidiYoke port 1 and then tell Kontakt (or any software synth or sampler) to take it's imput from MidiYoke port 1 as well. Very simple and so far, with all of an hour of not intensive testing, I have had no trouble.

There are similar programs out there for the PC and the Mac. For Mac, it looks like Pete Yandell's MIDI Patchbay software might do the trick.

Hope this helps

There is a program called bidule which will allow you to run VST's and a few other things like a recorder from them. You will need maple midi tools to link the finale output to your vst, but I have used it with little problem.

Both of these programs were free to download, and very easy to figure out how to use.

GPO sounds better than HQ-orchestral /QUOTE

I agree with David, the GPO product is infinitely better
that the HQ - and to boot, upgrades are without charge
and the support stupendous.  Its a snap to setup and the
samples are truly stunning at a dirt cheap price.
FINALE and GPO is a winning compatible combination and I
applaud FINALE for optimizing their dynamite notation software
to accomodate GPO.
