Hey all -

I'm doing a project with a TAB-only staff (with rhythms), but tuplets aren't showing up - both beamed/no brackets, and bracketed. I've checked all my settings and don't know where else to look. In the attached screen cap, the song is in 4/4 and tuplets are missing in bars 26 (eighth-note) and 31 (quarter-note). Thanks in advance!

Use the Staff Tool and double-click the first measure. Notation Style > Tablature > Select

Is "Show Tuplets" checked?

RickSausage: in the UX business we have a saying...there are no stupid users, only bad UI designs.

And this seems to me to be a curious bit of design. Can anyone tell me the use case for not showing tuplets in tabs? And, if having this option unchecked is the default, why would that be?

Thanks,

Jamie

The perceived object...is not a sum of elements to be distinguished from each other and analyzed discretely, but a pattern, that is to say a form, a structure: the element's existence does not precede the existence of the whole, it comes neither before nor after it, for the parts do not determine the pattern, but the pattern determines the parts: knowledge of the pattern and of its laws, of the set and its structure, could not possibly be derived from discrete knowledge of the elements that compose it.

Hey Jamie, thanks. I often tell people Finale can truly do anything, if you know where to look for the specific commands you need...

My pleasure. I'm a UI Designer (and former coder) by day, and there's most interesting phenomenon in my business: when users can't figure out how to use an interface, they almost invariably blame themselves...thus the above maxim.

Finale is a sample of what we call "exposing the system image" meaning that the UI reflects the underlying system architecture more than beidng designed sround users' workflow needs. This is why there is so much functionality hidden away in dialogues - the program needs user input and doesn't care how many hoops the user has to jump through to provide that input. Also, dialogues are much easier to code than more interactive UI bits. :-)

To be fair though:
1. Finale is an old program and a lot of its code will probably date from before the time when what I do for a living was a profession based on pseudo-scientifically gathered data. So a major rework of the UI would be a major undertaking at the expense of adding features or fixing bugs, which is what sells upgrades.
2. The Finale team is clearly trying very hard to improve usability despite the shackles of history, profit, and the occasional misstep.
3. Thanks to the (un)usability gods for Motet, Mike, Wiggy, Ron, Michel, etc.
4. I love Finale. It changed my life!
