I don't know how to even investigate what it might be, unless it's a serious bug and the company needs to fix it. I wasn't doing anything special, just looking at, listening to, and editing my score. At the moment it crashed, I was simply viewing it on the screen. At least ten seconds had passed since my last action. Boom! Program crashes and I lose all my work since the last save. I haven't had this experience just once, I've had it many times, with more than one file. Any advice, besides saving frequently? A rather frustrating problem... I can't seem to edit the quite straight forward SATB-score of 50 bars, or write lyrics into it. Whatever I try, the program just freezes. The coloured wheel starts spinning and there is nothing more to do but to close it with force. | Back to Top | |

And it is strange, very strange: I replaced the Norwegian letter "å" with "aa" and suddenly the lyrics tool worked fine. So there is a workaround (text search and replace to make the "aa" an "å" again.)
There are some other anomalies in this file; the Selection Tool will seemingly not make proper, well, selections. There seem to be some redrawing issues; I have to toggle between scroll and page view to redraw the screen. Never seen that before.
Edit: The above is all about your first uploaded file. The second one (.....igjen.musx) works as badly to me as it does to you. Edit II: The selection tool/redrawing thing - which I never had seen before - is not file specific, and may be a local issue to my MBP and not to your file. Sorry about that - and now: Reboot Skjalg Bjørstad, Norway

I got an answer now from the support team. Malcolm there tells me I should not use "hard space" but rather use regular space. But I can't write liturgical chanting without hard space and I can't write out the chanting on regular quarter notes - I believe that a great notation program like Finale, also intended for theological/liturgical use, should be able to cope with this fairly common way of writing chants.
What he did ask was that I try to convert the file to Music XML and back. That is, first export the file as Music XML and then save, then importing it back the same way. This somehow magically worked, and so far I have both typed into the score and clicked from the lyrics window using both regular and hard space. But like you say, Skjalg, the document sometimes freezes for a long time before all the text/notes snap into place. It takes maybe 10-15 seconds and then *pop* and the score looks all tidy. Hitting cmd + D does not help or speed up things.
(Like I said, I tried to write a brand new document with the same music, only spread on four staffs instead of two using two layers. I typed all the music note by note again. The problems also occured here, even before I had typed one single hard space.)
Now I am going to type the Lord's prayer (using A LOT of hard spaces), hoping for the best and that I will get the score ready for choir rehearsal on Tuesday!!!
(...) the score is now finished with all the lyrics and editing I wanted, and I have re-downloaded and installed the JW plug-ins as well. No signs of any problems so far, it seems the export/import via Music XML worked like magic. Thanks for all your support and advice, you are the best!! :) Finale 2014.5 on a MacBookPro retina 2,6 GHz Intel Core i5Post Edited (Hanne-Sofie) : 1/8/2016 12:50:02 PM (GMT-6) | Back to Top | | Forum Information | Currently it is Tuesday, December 19, 2023 7:21 PM (GMT -6) There are a total of 403,820 posts in 58,165 threads.
