I have a nearly-new custom-built audio computer that suddenly has turned on me. When I am using Hyperscribe or Playback, randomly one voice or another suddenly shifts several cents. After an equally random number of measures, it often returns. Also, using Hyperscribe, something I have used for many years, and for hundreds of charts, suddenly for no reason, I cannot enter accurately, no matter how I set quantization or click. Can someone save my sanity, or should I consider slitting my wrists and taking a warm bath?

It's all due to Halloween.

Seriously, it sounds like a pitchwheel issue, possibly. As far as entering accurately, if your quantization settings have not changed, it's hard to explain why your output is inaccurate. Sometimes a reboot can fix things. Or, reload the MIDI driver. I usually just mess around until something triggers better results.

I wish I could blame it on Halloween.

I have rebooted, restarted, reloaded my MIDI driver, checked to see if settings were changed all around, and am completely stumped. I thought about the pitchwheel, but they don't ever get touched in the type of work I am doing. I'm almost frustrated enough to blame the cat who "monitors" all my work.

Thanks, Zuill, for your support. I'll keep messing with things.

Regarding the tuning problems, are they completely random, or could they somehow typically occur after staccato notes...?
Regarding hyperscribe, what is your Audio setup and buffer size?

Thank you, Nordenstein, for giving me more to work with.
The detuning does not typically appear after a staccato, but totally randomly, often in the middle of a legato phrase.

Audio driver is Direct Sound, not WASAPI
Output is Hi-Def Speakers. Oddly, when testing, there was odd pulsing. I clicked S/PDIF and then back to Hi-Def Speakers, and the test was fine.
Buffer size is 512 (minimum). Does raising this increase latency? I am having random latency problems as well.

Are there (was there) any glissandos in the files with tuning problems, or does it happen with every file, or only files that were recorded with Hyperscribe?
Could you try a midi data erase? Do a select-all in the score, then Edit>Clear Selected Items. First click None, and then MIDI data and OK. If it doesn't help,
open the Expressions Selection dialog and click the Miscellaneous category. See if you have any blank expressions at the bottom of the window. If so, delete them.

If you have a custom built audio computer I would assume you also can select an ASIO driver. ASIO is highly recommended for real time midi input. Generally try the lowest buffer size available first...

Thank you for the suggestions. There were no glissandi in the scores with the tuning problems that I was writing at the time. I pulled a chart with glissandi, and did not notice this, but of course, it usually happens randomly in the middle of editing or scoring. I did what you suggested. So far, it is playing correctly. I will continue to try other charts that I am working on, including the one that has been most problematical.
