If you want that, then enter it, right click the handle, and in the grace note slot enter 1. That should now have the expression attached to the grace note.

(First, does "Edit Expression Assignment..." come up automatically for you when you right click the handle? I have to choose it from a menu).
I see what you mean. Now take a look at this. Try copying measure three into measure four by highlighting it and doing CNTL-click. Do you lose one of the Fz expressions? The one attached to the whole note?
This is just going to take some easy, but tedious, manual adjustment. It seems like MM developers have thought about this, but it performs quirkily.
In regards to this: I was looking at the below website recently. For the style of printed works he is talking about, I think he is on the money. Though this is not a jazz chart I am working on, I do believe this notation is fairly hard to take literally. Just an Fz on the whole note would, IMHO, almost always be performed the way the composer intended.
This is in a trumpet part. Being a trumpeter myself, I cannot imagine actually approaching the grace note with the same attack and definition as the whole note. The emphasis on both notes would just naturally come out, without the extra notation. I would lump this in the "Default" category Tim Davies talks about. Admittedly, this may not be the case with stringed or percussion instruments.
To the purists on the Forum, I know being meticulous is important, but avoiding overkill is just as important.
