It's a Windows 7 issue on Ron's machine, which has Windows update not operating properly. That is a huge difference. I would be more concerned about other issues, like security.

I am far from the only one experiencing this problem. And, yes, I could upgrade to Windows 10--or I can wait for MM to come up with a solution. In any case, I have lost about a week of work and am not anxious to spend more time on computer-related problems right now. Finale 25

Yes, it is apparently related to the Windows update application. It is broken on many Windows 7 machines. As I pointed out earlier, I have not had any Windows updates run to completion in several months. They all hang. MM's support team have identified the problem and are trying to find a workaround.
(They have also admitted that deleting the old version of Finale before the new one is successfully installed was not, perhaps, the wisest approach.) Finale 25

It will involve having to reinstall hundred of Windows updates (not to mention the--often--painful rebuild of all my other applications) with no guarantee that I will not run into the same problem. Yes, you might have to reinstall programs, but as I recall, there are options to keep certain installations. And, as I said, an up-to-date ISO file will eliminate the need to reinstall updates from the beginning, although there will be some you'll have to reinstall. That should go smoothly with a repaired Windows Update. It worked this way for me in Windows 7 when my Windows Update broke. Arthur J. Michaels
