Ballad for Adeline by Paul De Senneville is written in 4/4 time, but seems to have 8 beats per measure. Finale 2009 won't allow me to have more than 4 beats per measure in 4/4 time. Is there a way I can get Finale to let me have more beats per measure? rolleyes

Set the time signature to 8/4 and have it display as 4/4.

Can you post your version? I found it in 2/2 and 4/4, but neither required 8 beats per measure.

Here it is: It looks like 8 beats to me. I may be wrong as I am new at this.

You really are not seeing 8 beats per measure. You're seeing 2 layers in the same staff. In measure 1, enter the rest/3 16th pattern and ignore the stem-down quarter notes.

Once that's done, click the little "2" on the bottom left of your screen. Enter a quarternote C in the first measure under the 16th rest. It should show up as RED. You are now entering notes in Layer 2. Add the rest of the notes. Don't worry: It will print in black.

Now that you've done this, go watch the tutorial videos. They are VERY HELPFUL. Honest. They are time well spent.

In addition to the tutorials, some theory lessons might be in order. It's important to have the basics of music before attempting to use a notation program.

Thank you so much Zuill for the postings. I am brand new to the site.

I just purchased Print Music 2007 a couple of days ago, and this forum and you, have already helped me greatly.

My question (on the weekend when the service department is closed, the string parts need to be finished, and I've seemingly exhausted the quick start videos and user manual) is as follows:

When trying to make a Db chord symbol, in a violin, viola, and cello score (jazz style) format, I can place the symbol in the score and make the "D" appear plus any suffixes from the selection box. But for the life of me, I just can't get the flat to appear! It seems to work very well with the other suffixes, but trying for it alone is exhausing.

Enter your chord root, and then a lower case b for the flat: Db
Then enter the suffix.

Do the tutorials, watch the videos.

Also, please add the program you're using to your signature, in the forum Control Panel.
