First I've noticed this. Some staff lines on Finale rendered pdf's are blurred or super highlighted when opened in Preview. Blurring changes at different view levels but still are present unless zoomed in microscopically.

I will say this is not a problem on my retinal laptop, only on my older LCD monitor. It is also no problem if opened in Acrobat or even in a browser. Just in Preview. Seems to have begun with El. Capitan, or a recent upgrade of it. Anyone else notice this or know any more?

Have you tried adjusting the Preference > PDF > "Smooth Text and Line Art"? I find music PDFs work best with it OFF.

Recently the publisher I'm working for had this problem with Finale pdf-files opened in Acrobat Pro on a Windows computer. On my iMac with Preview everything was allright with the same files.

Fortunately that's only a display problem. The files are printed correctly.

@Wiggy

Turning off smoothing makes no difference. Only changes the blurring.

I know printing is not affected. Only LCD screen image. This is something new, it seems with Preview, which I've been using for years instead of Adobe Reader (because I've found Reader to be clunky to use and slow to print out).

I will say, turning off smoothing improves things, but still not 100% rendered. Other data (notes, text), no problem. Just the horizontal lines.

I believe that it's an issue of screen resolution. Horizontal lines may not hit the display pixels at exactly the same ratio. I have noticed the same thing occuring with my drafting program, with both horizontal and vertical lines.

Since the prints are correct, I don't worry about the display.

@ Mike Rosen

I understand, but this is something new. Never had the pixel disconnect prior to these new versions of El Capitan. It's a nuisance because I like to screen check with Preview when I send pdf's. And strange because the rasterization is perfect even in Safari's PDF reader. So what gives with Preview?
