It doesn't recognize the Maestro Font Default file even after directing it in the preferences.

1. Do you have a folder wth contents at /Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale ? (Root level Library, not user Library.)
2. Do you have the same set in the User Library?
3. Are the Folders set to the User Library folders in Preferences?
4. Is the default file named with a .musx file extension?

What exactly happens when you open a new default document? Can you see Document Styles in the Setup Wizard?

When Finale first launches, it should create the folders it needs in your user library. However, it seems to do so as they are required, so the first time you load the default document, it creates the Default folder.

Might be worth trying to trigger it by clicking on New > Default Document; New > Document from Template; File > open Worksheets.

It's seems that know matter what I do (save as Maestro Font Default.musx, import an MXL file andsave as Maestro Font Default.musx etc.) this is what I get;

BTW I installed Robert Patterson's plugins and Finale 25.1 kept quitting. I even tried removing the lite version so that and the full version wouldn't be together and that didn't help either. Any suggestions?

It used to be that the Finale installer would give you the option of a "Custom Install". You could pick various pieces of the full install singly or in any combination and install just those. Among those used to be "Component Files".
That might help clear up your problems with the Default file. Maybe it's wise to hold off on this a bit till some of the smoke clears.

Other than that, I wouldn't install any plugins until the application runs and is stable for a few days.

Go into Font book.app and remove the old versions of the Finale fonts. Reinstall the fonts.

The installer can't overwrite font versions that are too old.

That's what Finale had me do. But it still didn't recognize a default page etc. even though I pointed it towards it in Preferences. So, Finale support told me to start a account and that did the trick. Everything is working great
