When trying to print the parts to this score, whether to a regular printer or PDF, they are coming out reduced to a postage stamp size (see attached PDF). I've double and triple checked everything about page size, etc, and cannot figure out what is going on here. I've also attached the mus file (Finale 2008).

Can anyone tell me what I've done here??

Thanks.

The first page is 8 1/2 x 11, the rest are 9 x 12.

This does not explain why everything is coming out the size of a postage stamp.

Does the score look ok in Finale page view, in other words is it properly scaled so you can see the "paper" edges and the score in the right proportions?

In the "Page Format" dialogs from the Options menu there are several different percentage options, which makes it a little complicated, and after setting these you also need to do stuff in the Page Layout tool, it is worth checking the displayed percentages in the dialogs and then doing "Redefine Pages", I can't check your file because my latest version of Finale is 2007.

Thanks, Sophie. Yes, everything looks perfect in Finale itself. I'm away from my desk at the moment but I will try your suggestions when I get home.

Doesn't "Redefine Pages" undo all the layout formatting though?

I tried making a PDF and it came out OK, but I'm on a Mac. Maybe a setting on your PDF software is amiss.

really?? Well, it does this even if I print directly to my laser printer, so it has to be some setting in finale that I have screwed up.

Yes that would change your page formatting but I was suggesting it just to see whether it showed where your problem was, its interesting that someone else could print it OK, so perhaps its just some setting as you have suggested. Good luck!

If both PDFs and printer are affected, then it's almost certainly some print setting, and therefore OS, rather than Finale. Paper Setup?

Wiggy, yes that occurred to me as well, although I did add a "chamber music" custom size to accomodate my page set up. But perhaps the dimensions are entered incorrectly....

Well, I give up. The harp part is printing as it should, but both the viola and flute parts are "corrupted" in this way. I've compared every possible value between the files I can think of, to no avail.

So I start from scratch with the flute and viola. God, I hate technology. If I ever write another piece of music it's going to be by hand, in pencil.

jcotton,
If you got one of the parts printing properly, try copying that document, clearing all the notes, and pasting in the notes from one of the bad ones. If that prints properly, that would point to a confused setting somewhere.

Is this a problem with linked parts, what would happen if you cut/pasted everything in the part into a new score document similar to what Mike is saying but a completely separate file?

Hi Jeffery,

Check my attachment (test-part2)! Zoom in about 800% and you'll see it's my chart, even though at postage stamp size it looks the same.

As weird as it seems, the problem seems to be the multi-measure rests. I did two tests (after what happened to mine) on your chart. I deleted everything after the first multi-measure rest (4-bar at top of 2nd page), and the PDF was postage stamp size (jcotton). I also deleted the 4-bars rest, and it prints perfectly (jcotton2). Go figure!

Try it for yourself and see if you get the same results - at least if you can reproduce, we are on the way to sorting something out.

Cheers,

Tim

I have this problem with any parts created with Fin2008 and Vista. Scores print OK.
The parts print OK with Fin2008 and XP.
(Affected are both PS and HPGL sides of my HP LaserJet, a PDF printer, and Adobe's generic PS driver.)
I have found no solution.
