Date Joined Mar 2001 Total Posts : 3586 | Posted 7/25/2005 8:46 PM (GMT -6) | | Yes, you can create your own SmartMusic Accompaniments. You can even make accompaniments that will appear on the screen in SmartMusic, so you don't always have to dig out the sheet music.
The company makes notation software that you can use to create SM accompaniments. Finale is the top level, and then Allegro. PrintMusic can also do it, but lacks many of the features. If it's an option for you, I recommend looking at the full Finale. Although it retails for $600, you can purchase it at an academic discount, bringing it to under $200, depending where you shop (check www.academicsuperstore.com and E-bay).
If you're not familiar with Finale or any of these programs, you might want to try the demo(s). They can be found on www.finalemusic.com. If you're going to be a music teacher, you will find use for Finale. I use it to make SM accompaniments for my students.
As far as legal issues, as long as you're not distributing the accompaniments you create to people who don't own the sheet music, you're not going to run into problems. Windows XP, all updates
