Hello,

I am using Finale 2004b, Panther, G5. I used the percussion clef which defaults to letter "D" as a metatool in a file. It displays fine on screen, but the clef doesn't show-up in printouts or exported PDFs. Any idea what the problem may be?

Thanks,
Daniel

Have you downloaded and installed the Finale 2004 Macintosh Font Pack?

Yes, I had installed the font pack. Just to be sure I reinstalled it today, but the problem persists.

Daniel,

Did you view the exported PDFs on screen in Adobe Reader or in Preview or in both?

The problem happens with files viewed in both Preview and Acrobat as well as in printouts, when printed directly from Finale.

One way to help narrow things down is to post the file here and see what results others get with it. That can be an important step to determine the source of the problem.

Good point, Zuill.

Attached is a finale file interpolation the two percussion clefs: the one that prints, and the one that doesn't print. I included a pdf version as well, where you can see that only one of the clefs shows up.

I would be curious to know if the percussion clef prints out fine when printed from finale in another computer.

Thanks,
Daniel

Oops,

Just noticed a typo in my previous post.

Please replace the word "interpolation" with "interpolating".

Your problem has something to do with the Petrucci font. If you change the font for the clef to Maestro I think it will print correctly; however the clef in that slot looks completely different in Maestro. Instead of a box, it is two bars, like a pause button.

Hello Bill,

From what you said, I gather you had the same problem in your computer, right? That would mean that there is indeed a problem with the Petrucci font (at least with that particular symbol), and not a problem with my computer's setup, as I had suspected.

I'll let Coda Tech know about it.

Thanks,
Daniel

I wish I could open the file. With windows, I can't open files posted as macbinary. Can someone make the conversion? Otherwise, it looks like you are on to something. Good Luck.

I actually don't think Petrucci has anything in that spot. I believe what you're seeing on the screen is not a clef but an empty box.

In Maestro the clef that looks like a pause button is option-n, a

If I type that in TextEdit and change the font to Maestro I get the correct symbol but if I change it to Petrucci I get no change.

Bill's answer is correct. Petrucci does not have anything in the slot (139 in Windows), but Maestro does. That box is just a placeholder of sorts, but will not print (it does on my printer, though). It could be that an inkjet can handle it, but not a postscript printer, which may be what you have. Just change the font to Maestro.

That's a funny story to tell my students: that I mistook a place holder for a font empty for a percussion clef. ;-)
