I just noticed if you mute the top staff in a score, playback doesn't process the tempo marks assigned to "top staff." Any work-around, other than changing the staff list temporarily?

I am not getting that behavior in 2014.5. Maybe that behavior is file specific?

Zuill

P.S.: Maybe we needed more information. If you are using space-bar click or choose None for HP, then the behavior happens. You also mentioned change the Staff List. I'm guessing you meant the Score List. There is a similar issue about Swing Playback on or off not applying to all staves unless selected in the Parts list in the Score List. One should have a separate Score List set up that would cover both of these situations. As to another workaround, how about just setting the Volume to 0 for that staff, instead of muting. Or, Solo all the other staves instead.

Forget the "workaround" of soloing all the other staves. That behaves the same as muting the first staff. Just slide the top staff down to 0 in the mixer.

Right, score list, which looks like this.

Indeed, I have HP set to "None," since I use playback to check pitches rather than achieve a musical performance, and HP has all those delays and bugs.

Edit: Mixer solution seems workable--thanks!

I noticed another rather harmless bug: if you play back while in the Staff tool, the sweeping cursor erases the lines which denote a staff style temporarily.

You can avoid the disappearing Staff Styles by turning off Scrolling Playback.

Regarding the Score List, try checking all the parts in the parts column to see if that works better. It does in my testing.

Zuill

P.S.: if you have grouped staves, like Piano, just leave the lower of the 2 staves unchecked, as you wouldn't want the part to have the expression on both staves. This setting basically amounts to Top Staff for most situations, and avoids some of the playback buginess occurring when only the Top Staff choice is made.
