Ugh.

I'm old so I don't know anything about those other places -- Faceplate, Twister, and such.

I sure will miss sharing ideas with my pals here and hope that some other site will emerge as the go-to spot.

Oh well, this simple means that each and every customer will have to contact MakeMusic support for even the simplest of questions. Do they have the capacity for what lies ahead?

The charming Mike Rosen & the ever-helpful Peter Thomsen are moderators and contributors on www.finaleforum.com/ so perhaps there is hope for something both useful and congenial independent of MM.

I'll try it over at the new place, but this seems like a weird slap in the face to this community - which consists of some of Finale's most long-term users...

Many drawbacks to the new Finale forum:

No signature, so one has to enter user info every time.
No way to delete a post.
No way to attach an actual file. I'm leery of links and the potential for issues.
Hard on the eyes.

SAD STORY.

We can move to finaleforum.com and notat.io for engraving questions.
What i disoike about the Facebook groups is that there are to many opinions, sometimes false, hard to search for any topic, file uploads, signatures....
I will make now an account at finaleforum.com and say goodbye to all MM soup.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like it doesn't remember what one has already read. That's probably OK for the drive-by user with a single question, who can "subscribe" to the responses by email, but is a huge drawback for those visiting regularly.

Also, is such subscription automatic? I posted a few things there at the beginning and then got bombarded with email until I figured out how to turn off the subscriptions (one at a time, by the way). I have avoided it ever since.

How about a write-in campaign? The OP over at the other Forum could easily receive a bunch of passionate emails asking him to re-think the decision.

Probably wouldn't work, but you never know?

I sent him one already... Anyone else feel up to defending our little corner of the web?

The other massive problem with the new forum is that there's nowhere to enter your System or Finale version information, or which variant of which platform you're using. If anybody bothers to answer (which doesn't seem to happen very often) the first handful of questions will probably need answers to those questions first.

I say the number one problem is remembering what you've read--am I right that it doesn't do that? I guess one could write down when they were there last and look at the dates of the new postings, but that seems hokey.

The new format is awkward and limited. What's interesting is that they gave us a month before shutting this forum down. What would the motivation for that be?

This is ridiculous. There are numerous companies that offer transferring from one to another forum web application, including private messages, hashed login passwords, attachments...
And there are many very good forum web applications with amazing features. WHY WAS NOT THAT AN OPTION, ADAM?
Zendesk feels like ....twitter.
I think MM wants to get rid of "illegal users", that is fine, but that doesn't solve anything.

I hope Make Music reconsiders their decision to close this forum at the end of the month. If they do close it, I think it will be a great loss, and one that may never be regained, despite the good intentions of other forums. I have had a look at the new Help Centre, but I am not very impressed with the layout/readability of it, and it seems to me that its members don't visit often, and questions are not getting the same volume of replies as we have grown accustomed to on this forum here. A question posted 4 days ago on the Help Centre is still unanswered by anyone. That doesn't instil much confidence. I think we should keep this forum and stop trying to re-invent the wheel!

This forum has been so helpful to me over the years, especially when I have a deadline. An answer (or ten) is always forthcoming from somewhere in the world and usually within 5 minutes. This is my first port of call because a reply to a support ticket, whilst generally useful & appreciated, might take a whole day or overnight to come through.

Also, this forum (and its established community) is one of the main reasons why I remain loyal to Finale as my notation product of choice. This forum makes it easier for me to use the complex Finale product. I consider it to be one of the selling points of Finale, one of its most useful features. So, I really hope Make Music keeps this forum alive.

Cheers,
Hector Pascal.

A Forum is more than just a helpful tool for users of a product. It's a community. We all know what happens when a community is destroyed.
