Anybody has as simple chart with info about what controls volume? I'm loosing time just experimenting.
I find it a bit confusing.
There is human playback There are expressions ( like forte, piano etc. ) There is a volume mixer There is a studio view There is a volume controls in the VST banks and effects setting There is a volume setting in the aria player
Some things work only with softsynth and others work with VST. And then there are the effects like reverb or the effects in the aria player.
Who does have a simple chart with what works?

Set the basic relative volume of instruments in the ScoreManager (for example, lower the woodwinds and raise the string, maybe to ww: 85, strings to 110, the rest are basically okay.) Then use the dynamic expressions within the score. There should be no need to tinker with anything else.
One exception, if you get pops and other unwanted effects, consider lowering the base volume in the aria player from its default 70 to 60 or a bit lower. Thanks for the help. When I start a new file in finale I never have problems. But now I have to import xml files from mac 2010 version to windows 2014 version. It is as the program has an own opinion.

I think I found what is happening. The settings in the score manager and the mixer are the same and one can use both of them. But the aria player mixer fader also uses that setting but one can not use the mixer fader in the aria player. Those faders settings will change to the settings of the mixer or score manager settings as soon as playback starts. So what is the use of having a very nice mixer in the aria player if its settings are overridden at playback.
Using reverb is another story. I have to use the aria mixer if I want to change the sent levels for the reverb as VST reverb does not work with the mixer.
Thanks for helping
