I've purchased a Casio CTK-571 keyboard to hook into my PC. I'm using PrintMusic software although I have Finale. The Printmusic is easier to use without much instruction. I've attached a MIDI cord correctly (input to output etc) and plugged the other end into my game port. When I try to enter music using this keyboard, it 'hears' about one in every 13 notes. So I know it's getting SOME information...but I'd sure like it to get ALL the information. Computer shops are ignorant about midi, and the music shops can't help me either...HELP!

Kim,
When you say you "hear" about 1 in 13 notes, do you mean Finale only gets about that many notes in the program when you do entry or do you get all the notes on the screen but only a few actually sound? What about playback -- does it play back all the notes you enter with a mouse (or all the notes in the sample lessons) or does it only play back a few?
There are lots of potential difficulties, but knowing the answers to the above will help narrow things down. Also, make sure your keyboard is set to "Omni" and "Polyphonic" -- you can look in your manual to see how to do this. Then report back here and perhaps we can help further.

Thanks for your help so far!
I'm using PrintMusic software. I will double check on the Omni and Polyphonic. When I try to input musical notes using the keyboard, it only SOUNDS a note every so often, AND it only prints that note. So it doesn't Sound all that I am playing, even when I play one note at a time slowly, nor does it write all that I am playing.
I was thinking that maybe I would just try a bus set up that contains software and that would bypass whatever problems I may be having with my gameport receiving the information. I fiddled around with my Windows MIDI set up and totally ruined it so that now I cannot hear anything played in PrintMusic!

Also, Kim, don't forget the usual suspects: make sure you have the latest drivers for your game/midi card (visit the card maker's site for this) and that they are correct for your OS, make sure the card isn't having an interrupt problem (you can check this by going to your settings and -- well, it depends on your OS. Post what you're using here).
It sounds like you can't play anything through your MIDI port now, so the odds are there is something wrong with the basic card/driver setup you'll need to correct. Worse comes to worse you can buy a "regular" MIDI card/unit, such as Midisport (if you have USB, I'd highly recommend it -- they also make a serial version) which will be a lot more troublefree.
