All documents open in 2014.5, even the ones created with Finale 25. I know I can change the default application to open .musx files to Finale 25, but that's not the point. Shouldn't documents open by default in the most recent version of an application when multiple versions are present?

The Mac OS only looks at version numbers when determining what the most recent app is. Since 2014.5 is greater than 25, the OS assumes that this is the most recent version.

And that's how inconsistency with version numbers bites one in the a…, I assume (pun intended).
Thanks for the clarification, though.

Ah. And the concept that Finale v.25 for Mac was going to run on a Mac OS never occurred to anyone on the development team?

In the desktop's file info, you can determine which program is to open it and then select 'Use this application to open all documents of this type'.
