When I want to clear a measure at the time signature change in the staves that don't show the time signature, the signature appears again, even though the filter is set to "notes and rests" only.
With the "clear selected items" feature set to "notes and rests" I can clear the measure and the time signature does not appear. However, this being an extra step, I much prefer to select the measure and use either delete or backspace to clear the measure. Why can't this be done?
I've tried it in 2014.5, 2014 (.mus file) and 2012, so it doesn't seem to be an update to 2014.5 issue. I attach .musx and .mus sample files if somebody would care to take a look. Thanks. Those two statements seem to be saying the opposite. If you mean the copy filter in the first statement, that filter is used for copying, not clearing. Clearing has its own filter, as you have discovered, but Backspace clears everything, regarless of either filter setting.
I have a Finale script macro to do something similar to what you want (in my case, I wanted to avoid clearing staff styles). This is mapped to Ctrl+Alt+C:
You would want to clear "measure settings", obviously. (Edit: see below) Finale 2011b, 2005, TGTools Finale 2014d demo Windows 7, MIDI input Finale Transposition ChartPost Edited (Motet) : 11/27/2015 2:36:24 PM (GMT-6)

However .... according to the manual - under "Edit Filter - What it does" it says:
You can copy or erase any element of your music without disturbing the remaining elements. This dialog box lets you specify which elements you want to copy or erase. For example, you might want to erase only the lyrics from a selected region, or you might want to copy only staff styles or time signatures from one place to another. You can specify any combination of items to copy or erase. ?? This is not what mm wants. The only way, or at least one way to get it to work as desired is to use the "Edit->Clear Selected Items..." command, click "None", check "Notes and Rests", then click "OK". This is too many steps. A Finalescript similar to what you provided will accomplish the task with only a CTRL+ALT+C. Attached is an example script. Be sure to check "Don't show palette when calling a script from the menu" in the Finalescript Options if you don't want the Finalescript palette to open and stay on the screen.

Clearing all but Staff Styles as you suggested is yet another way that will work too. Removing all the staff styles and unchecking the staff attribute to display Time Signature on the appropriate staves is a better overall solution, but mm had already done all that work in the document.

I had considered the large time signature options before I started with what is in effect a large work consisting of 10 separate scores set up the same way. I chose the staff style option because this preserves the time signature changes in the parts, which is not the case if I choose to not show time signatures on certain staves via staff attributes. Therefore, instead of re-formatting all the scores, I'll figure out how to use the proposed scripts, or just use the "clear selected items" method (the items chosen seem to at least stick with each document and each Finale session). But it seems a bit quirky that the manual definitely states that from the Edit Filter section one can erase specific items by using Ctrl-X or the Delete key or Backspace. So ... either it's just bad manual writing/editing, or ... a bug, since the program doesn't do what it says it will. Installed Charles' script, assigned to Alt-C (not needing/using that previously existing Finale shortcut), works flawlessly. Great and simple solution!
