Hello,

I am aware that Finale (probably more so my 2007 version than newer ones) does not properly support EPS. So I learn by trial and error what it does and does not support!
When I import a Finale generated EPS file into a vector graphics application (e.g. Adobe Illustrator) and embed the EPS file, the lines of the staff have a given stroke size (line thickness). But I noticed that if I scale the EPS file prior to embedding, it has no effect on the stroke size of the staff lines. I have all the proper settings in Illustrator to resize the stroke size when scaling the EPS file. I am expecting the stroke size to resize when I do that.

What should I expect? Does resizing an EPS file resize stroke sizes too (i.e. is this a feature supported by proper EPS)? Or is this an EPS feature that Finale's EPS breaks?

Thanks.

Have you tried the 2014 demo tosee if it's any different? Have you tried PDF, rather than EPS?

Hi Mike,

No, I haven't tried the 2014 demo. I know 2007 is old but it still caters for (most) of what I need. Yes, I've tried PDF but not thoroughly in this particular case. PDF has other issues as you know, and it can also split a line into many lines instead of a single line! On this occasion, I am not looking at PDF as a workaround (yet).

In the current issue I am describing, I'd like to know whether it's Finale's support of EPS that is broken for this feature, whether EPS in general does not support this, or whether it has to do with the vector graphics application (I am not asking about this last option).

An EPS graphic should scale indefinitely in either direction. So if you reduce it by 50%, then everything is reduced by 50%. If you magnify it by 1000%, then everything scales up by that factor. Your stroke width will only be 1pt at 100%.

Hi Wiggy,

Thanks, that's also what I expect. For the moment, I am suspecting the problem arises during embedding of the EPS file in my graphics application. Therefore, perhaps Finale's EPS support can be ruled out.
