I practice first with both my part and the accompaniment playing. Then I practice with only the accompaniment. The problem I'm having (minor but annoying) is when I play only the accompaniment, the volume is so low I have to stop and adjust the volume up to hear it. Is this something I can adjust from within SmartMusic, or is there something I need to adjust in Finale when I am creating the two parts? I would like to be able to switch in SmartMusic between listening to my part plus accompaniment and accompaniment only without having to adjust the volume. Thanks in advance. Ron | Back to Top

Based on your suggestion I checked the midi key velocity setting for both my part and the accompaniment, and they are set the same. I can try adjusting the accompaniment part up, but if my part and the accompaniment already have the same setting, shouldn't both parts play back at the same volume? I'm wondering if there isn't a more direct way to adjust the volume between the two parts. | Back to Top

My first attempt was to adjust the gain of the accompaniment part through the mixer control in Finale before exporting to SmartMusic. This did increase the volume when playing back in Finale, but it did not increase the volume when playing back in SmartMusic, so that option did not work. Next I tried Jim's suggestion. In Finale I increased the dynamics marking for the accompaniment to "ff" before exporting to SmartMusic. That successfully increased the volume of the accompaniment in SmartMusic, so that is a solution. It is not a completely satisfying solution though because the accompaniment is now too loud when played back in Finale. What this means is that I have to create the the piece in Finale and then add temporary dynamics to increase the accompaniment volume before exporting to SmartMusic. It would be nice if the volume of the accompaniment in SmartMusic matched the volume in Finale, but at least I have a work around that does seem to work. | Back to Top | | Forum Information | Currently it is Tuesday, December 19, 2023 7:37 PM (GMT -6) There are a total of 403,820 posts in 58,165 threads.
