Has anyone done any studies on how effective Smart Music's practice program is in improving intonation with music students? I am particularly interested in string students.

I have done no formal studies, but I can send you some great recordings of a sixth grade clarinet player in her third week of playing. That example alone should speak for the value of using SmartMusic to teach intonation.

It would be very hard to find the perfect side by side for comparing "with and without."
 
Any ideas on how to do the study?  I think it would be a great study. 
I don't teach strings, but it would be another demonstration of why this program is important to music teachers.
 
There are a lot of other reasons for using SmartMusic.  It is a great tool for teaching the video game generation.  It is a safe place for students to experiment without fear of what other people think (pretty important with young performers.)  It makes it possible to take a class of 100 students and individualize the instruction.  That's just the short list!

Thanks for the responses. I am thinking about a study that would involve string players near end of their first year of group instruction. I would use an original piece and test the performance accuracy upon sightreading using the software.. I am thinking about having three groups. One group would practice the piece in private (perhaps group?)  lessons for four weeks. The next group would practice on their own for four weeks. The third group would use Smart Music for four weeks. I would then retest accuracy.

Thoughts?
