Try this: have two Finale files open.
Minimize one of them to the dock
Now try to use the Selection Tool on the document that is still on your screen.
For me, it doesn't work unless I get the minimized document out of the Dock and back onscreen. Other tools seem to still work if one document is minimized, however.

David,

You're right.

I noticed that this doesn't happen in 2014 -- just 2014.5.

For me only selecting measures doesn't work. Any other items (slurs, text, graphics, ...) can be selected with the Selection Tool.

Thomas

Works for me in Finale 25. However, Minimizing document windows is by and large completely unnecessary, and often can be a hindrance to productivity, as it's easy to forget that the files are open.

With Application Windows, Mission Control, Command ` and Command Tab, not to mention Tabs in Sierra, and even the simple list of documents in the Window menu (and right clicking on the Dock icon), there are plenty of ways of selecting the document you want, or of switching to and from another app.

I suspect all of us Mac users on this thread are extremely aware of the various ways to manage two documents. I use two monitors. But I'm also the person who reported this bug and there was a specific reason minimization was desired. Everyone has different use cases and ways of working. Glad this is fixed. Let's move on.
