Newly set up 10.6.3 MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz 4 GB RAM

When I set up this computer several months ago I did a vanilla installation and migrated programs and apps from my old MacBook. Had to re-install finale 2009 then because it wouldn't authorize. With the MacBook and my iMac 2.8GHz running10.6.3 also, I'd had the plug-in bundle-bit problem

Cut to 2011 installation. I installed this without Garriton instruments. Don't need them.

After the installation process was finished I got the messages that the following could not be found:
SMPCheck.bundle
SmartMusicMarkers.bundle
TextSearchReplace.bundle
HP.bundle
ScoreMerger.bundle
ApplyCapoChords.bundle

and there is no menu for plugins at all - sound famillier.

WTF is going on?

Those bundles are all inside the Finale app package, IIRC. You need to set the bundle bit on those, too.

Don't forget to report this bundle problem to MM.

Already done that. I'm waiting for an answer from Make Music because frankly, this is the only app I've got that does this and I'm sick of it. BTW - no default documents were installed. No templates were installed. No document styles were installed. Nothing was in the Libraries folder. No user manual was installed.

I had that problem on one of my machines but not on the other. I went into the folders section of Program Options and set the correct paths to all those things and they work fine now. It just took a few seconds.

I think the way 2011 places parts of the program is different from before, but I haven't quite figured it out yet. For instance, some things seem to be in the user account and others in the general account.

Most of the things you're missing are now in <user>/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic, I think.

Try moving the missing folders from --> HD Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale 2011/ TO --> User Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale 2011/.

I did find the "missing" default files, template and such. Just that the Program itself was looking in the wrong place. You'd think that the installer program would know where it'd installed it's stuff and set the paths initially there. As to the bundle bit thing, I COULD fix is but I'm not going to. I want to hear from Make Music why it hasn't worked on any machine I've tried, neither here at home nor at the University (as a test). Why should I have to spend the time to do something as elementary as this - again, some kind of installer problem and not even a new one. It's been here for several years now. I could understand it if this was some high school kid writing his own first shareware program, but this upgrade set me back a little penny and with the exception of Fin2010 I've bought everyupgrade since Finale 2.6.

Hi Leonard,

Sorry to hear you're still having trouble with the bit bundle issue.

This is not a common problem among Macintosh users (we have had 18 contacts on this issue since June of 2007) and we've been able to isolate the problem to a few specific applications which can cause the bit bundle issue, and I'm sure there are more out there that we have not encountered yet as detailed in the article below. Also, the steps in the article below will solve the problem.

makemusic.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1106/

I'm fairly positive that the issue is isolated to something common about your computers or installation procedure.

As for the missing file problems, when you run the Finale 2011 installer, are you performing a custom installation or are you doing the full standard installation and choosing not to install the GPO sounds?

Finale 2011 stores Application specific default files to Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > MakeMusic > Finale 2011 > Music Files. When Finale 2011 is launched for the first time, needed files are copied to Macintosh HD > Users > (Your User Folder) > Library > Application Support > MakeMusic > Finale 2011 > Music Files.

We have had some contacts about these files not being copied properly since the release of 2011 if the users have had some permissions problems occurring on their user account. These customers have been able to solve their problems by creating a new standard user account.

You can also copy these files directly from the Mac HD > Library to the User Folder > Library if you are not in a position to troubleshoot any account issues.

Again, these types of problems are computer and setup specific. I noticed that you have migrated your hard drive from your previous computer, do you have any of these issues if you do a total hard drive re-format then a clean install of OS 10.6 (without copying anything from a previous computer)?

Thanks,

Justin Phillips

Hello Justin

Only 17, eh? well about 20 of them must have left messages here. :-(

I did a full installation w(out Garritan

As I wrote, the file were installed, but it would seem that the the initial program settings did not know where the files were actually installed, since I then had to find them.

re-doing lauch services database did NOT fix the problem, like so many here have reported.

I'm taking my DVD again to the univ. I had the same bundle bit problem there with Fin 2009 and Fin2008 on vanilla systems directly after a DVD only installation on a series of iMacs, MacMinis and MacBooks.

What kind of user can't write to their own user account? That's a pretty serious permission problem.

As for the bundle bit issue, I had it once with 2008, but not with 2009 on the same machine, with the same apps.

We're investigating that right now. It's possible that there could be a wrong permission setting for the MakeMusic folder at Library > App Data from an older version of Finale, SmartMusic, etc. Not really sure at the moment, since we've been unable to reproduce this in house.

Has there been an official resolution to this? I just installed Finale 2011 on my OSX 10.6.6 Mac and am having this exact issue. I've been upgrading since 2004.

I reread your post and was able to correct the issue. I followed the instructions here:

makemusic.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1106/

but just deleted the entire Finale 2011 application instead of the plug-ins folder. Then I did the step titled "REBUILD LAUNCH SERVICES DATABASE" and reinstalled Finale and now it is a-ok.

Thanks
