Dang it. What am I doing wrong? I've created a nice ossia. I'm trying to hide the scratch staff which was the source. Everytime I hide the scratch staff, the ossia disappears also. Aargh.

It sounds like the Ossia is attached to the scratch staff. Make sure you are double-click a staff that will not be hidden when you create the Ossia.
