Chapter 13b
All was going well for Tech-no-logic. After the signature of the Finale/Superius Commercial Truce it was agreed that those customers who wrote music for money would be provided with Finale, while those who produced music for pleasure would receive the other program. The few who did both could purchase a combined Lite version written on the back of an envelope.
Marketing problems resolved, the team turned to development of the software/hardware interface, and commissioned Mr. Hopeful, the intrapuntal composer, to write a composition for 129 tubas reading the score directly from 128 Finale computer screens: (because of the Sideways Compatibility limit the two piccolo tuba players had to share one screen). Originally intended for Carnegie Hall, the concert was moved to the Yankee Stadium, as the Netagainst directors decided that only the giant screens could show the audience and the musicians at the same time how wonderful the future of classical music was to become, thanks to Finale.
The avant-garde musical critics were ecstatic, because the composition consisted of one measure of total silence. The Music Publishers Defence Association were also pleased, because it seemed that at last someone had produced a piece which could not be illegally recorded in MP3 and distributed on the net.
The composer actually wrote the composition at the press conference, using the latest Sitdown Wizard at Tech-no-logic's request. The press were allowed to input the title, the ternary time signature, the instruments, the dynamics and so on, but Hopeful himself individually Simple-entered the whole measure rest on each staff (for copyright protection purposes). The Netagainst founder himself saved the file.
The Glitz team had surpassed themselves. The composition was short, so the Scrolling Playback line had been gloried up: it was now a flashing, fluorescent, double rainbow .
Hopeful directed the concert. In a total hush he raised his baton and switched on Finale.
And that was where the catastrophe started. In twenty-yard-high scarlet letters Finale displayed
"THERE ARE TOO MANY NOTES IN THIS MEASURE"
The court case went against the company, but heroic work by their lawyers enabled them to salvage the Forum and Notepad. The market was ready to write off T-n-l, but then occurred the miracle of the Hopeful/Finale collaboration, making the firm what it is today.
How this started is recorded in Chapter 7 (and a half:-).

Maybe I'm just totally dense, but the point of this was lost on me. And if there was no point, what was the point of posting it? Maybe it's time to start dis-allowing anonymous posting, eh?

I think Mr. Anon is actually a Finale programmer. C'mon Anon, we know you are. From the logic of his stories it's pretty clear that he designed the lyric tool.

Or do you suggest it's mr. Farrand himself reappearing in the Finale world?

Apart from Anacrusis we now have Polymeter, Clef Designer and two threads below: Key Signature.

Perhaps if Mr. Hopeful didn't spend his time trolling the Finale forum and did his theory homework, he'd know how many beats to put in a 3/4 bar.

What the hell was this post supposed to mean? I guess if I gotta ask, then I'll never get it.
