I have a final measure I am putting a whole note into. It defaults to very far left next to the left barline.

How can I manually space it in the middle?

thank you

You should be able to drag it anywhere you want in the measure using Speedy Entry.

Or, you can use Special Tools Tool > Note Position Tool.

Or, you can select Measure Tool, click in the measure, click the lower handle on the right barline, and move the beat position.

Since it's standard notation practice, Finale really should have an option for centering whole notes if none of the measures in other staves contain anything but whole notes or whole rests, but I don't think it does.

or you can delete the bar and shorten the piece. would work better for radio play.

...and tell the players to stop tapping their damned feet.

Seriously, Jeff, go to Options> Document Settings> Music Options> Spacing Before Music. If the whole note is that close to the bar line, chances are that the default setting is a bit too small...
