I did a search on this subject and didn't have any hits. I'm baffled as to how to add spanish accents ( è and ñ ) to lyrics and text in Finale. I've tried the Apple character palette but the "insert" tool doesn't work in either of the Finale tools.
Thanks for any help.

| Posted 3/28/2007 1:32 PM (GMT -6) | | | You know (and this has nothing to do with Finale, but everything to do with this thread), this is where I really miss the old Key Caps utility--not the one that came with Mac OS 9 and earlier, but the one that Adobe included for free with many of their type products. It showed you, on one sheet that you could print out, all of the characters that were available for any given font and what keystrokes produced them, in a very clear, concise way. It was way better than either of the two utilities that OS X now has. Way better. You know how, in the Finale pdf manual it has charts for the music fonts such as Maestro? Well, this utility would do that for any font you had. And it included the letters with the accents mentioned in this thread.
Adobe doesn't have it for OS X, but if there's anyone who knows of a similar utility made by someone else, I'd sure like to find out about it.

| Posted 3/28/2007 1:50 PM (GMT -6) | | I made a few myself in Quark. I just typed each character and saved it as a template. When I open it, I just change to the font I want and see how it looks. I have made variations that have side-by-side text blocks where I can change the font in one, and see it beside the same character in something like Helvetica (that way, I just look for the symbol I want, and next to it is the keystroke I can easily find in Helvetica). I have a version that I can see all symbols on one page, and another that has a different page for each symbol. You can make one yourself. Here's a start:

It makes life easier, not only in the Text Tool, but whereever you have the Text menu, including the Staff Tool, the Expression Tool, and also the Lyrics Tool:
Lyrics menu > Edit Lyrics...
However, the Text menu is not available in the Lyrics Tool's mode "Type Into Score".
But you can type your lyrics in the window Edit Lyrics, and enter your lyrics into the score via the mode "Click Assignment".
