I saw the recent thread on using a workaround script for Finale's ignoring user-chosen manuscript texture settings. Here's my current script:

//Reset Background
Menu item "Program options"
click "Palettes and Backgrounds"
click radio "Solid Color"
click OK

/*

The problem is that when I use this script, it stalls at the "Palettes and Backgrounds" window. Then I have to click on "Palettes and Backgrounds," wait for Finale to load them, and then choose the white solid manuscript texture I prefer. Can anyone help with this script so that the script does all this?

Thanks.

Uhh I just tried your script and it worked perfectly for me... I now have a white background. I cannot even think what would be causing it to stop tho.... (Maybe maybe if you try something annoying like

//Reset Background
Menu item "Program options"
click "new" (for instance)
click "Palettes and Backgrounds"
click radio "Solid Color"
click OK

I've found sometimes that the scripts stick, and if I get it to choose something else first, and then the one I require, that sometimes works (makes the script take a little longer but still.)

Thanks, Sasha. That's interesting. Now I wonder why it works for you and not for me! Anyone have an idea? Thanks.

From your signature, it indicates that you're using Finale 2007. There was a major change to Finalescript with Finale 2009.

Finale not (or only sporadically) remembering the background color has been irritating me for years ....

I also use this script

//Reset Background
Menu item "Program options"
list "Palettes and Backgrounds"
click radio "Solid Color"
Press ok

which works ... to some degree - it always ends up with the grey background color (third color from the right in the bottom row), no matter what it was before

what, if any, specific wording could be added to this script so that it ends up with the color I want? (e.g. the teal green, fourth color from the right in the bottom row)

anybody??
and why can't this be fixed? (this must be bothering lots of people, no?)

Does anyone know if there's a way to get this script to pause while the palettes and backgrounds load, and then continue? I wonder if the script doesn't work for me because it's trying to continue the script while Finale is busy.

with this script it gets as far as the choice of opening the palette of colors and then it stops

//Reset Background
Menu item "Program options"
list "Palettes and Backgrounds"
click radio "Solid Color"
click "Select"

the script command click "Select" doesn't do anything, I have not been able to actually get it to 1) open and then 2) choose a color and then 3) apply it

what could the correct commands be to achieve this?
any hot script writers out there?

I upgraded to Finale 2011, and this script now works. However, the bug still occurs in Finale 2011. MM needs to fix the bug in which it arbitrarily changes user settings to defaults. This have been going on now since Finale 2006.

Regarding the pause option, I've seen someone use a "WAIT 2 seconds" command. I have no clue if it worked.

There is a "Wait to do something" command I use when something like File Maintenance. It waits for a new windows to open in order to do the next command.

Hi, Mircea. I don't use a pause command. The script works fine without it. I might add one and see what happens, though.
