I am a first-time Make Music blogger.
The topic I would like to open is how to adapt Finale 2011 for the inclusion of aleatoric passages within traditional scores. This would hopefully include an expanded, or at least easier to use, Note Shape Tool. I would like to be able to break a measure's existing bar lines at will in order to layer repeated passages within that measure.

You can do this in Finale by creating a measure with a time sig of, let's say, 22/4 or 17/8 and hiding the time sig with the Measure Tool (time sig > never show). Stems can be hidden with a Staff Style defined to do so.
> So far as noteheads, you should investigate the "Note Shapes" notation style (Staff Tool). You can assign all 7 steps of the scale a different notehead. You can apply this via a Staff Style. The Note Shapes notation may not be very flexible depending upon your exact needs.

You may know all of this stuff already - just thought I'd add my 2 cents.

| Posted 3/3/2011 9:54 PM (GMT -6) | | | An interesting idea would be to go into Staff Attributes and change all staves to percussion staves (done by clicking on the combo box next to Notation Style and selecting Percussion). Then click on the "Select..." button and create as many "percussion" layouts as you need. This gives you more flexibility than using the Note Shape tool. For example, you can set different note shapes on a per-staff basis. The downside to this is that the playback may not be at the correct pitches. | | Back to Top | |
