Hi all,

Does uninstalling Finale on a machine automatically/simultaneously deauthorize it? Or do you have to manually deauthorize via the Help menu?

I've recently been having issues starting Finale without it crashing almost immediately several times in a row before getting it to work properly (even after reinstalling), and I suspect too many authorizations at fault, but I could be totally wrong.

Thanks for your time and if you can help!

I seriously doubt that authorizations have anything to do with crashes. If your copy is not authorized it will work, but in a limited way (eg. printing/saving would be disabled after the expiration of the trial period). For the record, I have been using Finale for more about 15 years, have changed machines and upgraded several times and never had any problems with authorization. I simply do not worry about it or tinker with it.

Installing and uninstalling does not touch authorization--nor should it. It is your machine that is authorized, not your copy of the software.

As for the crashes, you could open a support ticket and hope you find a sympathetic support person who will look at your issue without getting bent out of shape about your software being out of date for support purposes. Another thing you try: clean up your system--get rid of junk, defrag your hard drive, etc., maybe even reinstall your entire operating system if necessary. But, installing/uninstalling Finale will get you nowhere unless you address the underlying issues with your system.

Thanks for the tips, Ron! I'll try that out.

Side note, how do you like Finale 25 so far?

I have no problem with Finale 25, excerpt I am still waiting for some third party plug-ins that I depend on.

I appreciate that it is much faster to load large ensembles than earlier versions, but that is no surprise, and the crashes on opening an existing file--which were daily in Finale 2014, are now very rare events. Other than that, I haven't encountered or been bothered by things that others are complaining about. (But those with Garritan instruments that are no longer supported have my sympathy. I doubt that Gary would have permitted this state of affairs if he still had any say in it. He was a real gentleman and a decent guy to boot.)
