Amazing! Did you and Tobias plan this timing, did MM finally release some important programming info to you both or is it just a happy coincidence that these two updates appear at the same time?

Version 1.01 is now available for download and should fix some issues in the Sequence Editor.

I've also now put a video on YouTube, that describes how to create a sequence in JW Change:

Thank you, Jari. Looks like JW Plug-in Manager may not be aware of JW Change--I've installed the latest but the Manater still thinks 0.27 is installed.

Thanks for that tip, Motet.  There are a lot of "Visual Options" to choose from.  The "JW Plug-in Tool - Options" still doesn't reflect the new version 1.01, just the beta.

Just a cosmetic issue.  Bring up "Accidentals/Custom Shape" and drag the right hand border around.  The "Select..." button stays fixed when it should move with the border resize.  It overlays the "Symbol:" spinner control and does not refresh properly.  There may be other such instances.

Same with Notehead/Custom Shape. It is actually kind of fun, but probably not the desired behavior.

about the Custom Notehead: if I have an independent font selected for a staff, using the Custom Notehead feature only allows noteheads from the default document font, not the font of the chosen staff. Is this the way it is designed to work? I know it mentions default in the instructions, but I was just wondering if there was a chance.

Zuill

P.S.: I did discover there is a way to choose by the number, and it will choose the right character for that slot for an independent font, so I have an easy workaround.

I often use for lyrics the tool "Rebeam to Lyrics..." in the >Utilities >Rebeam menu. This tool only works on the layer lyrics are attached to. This could be a possibility for your tool "JW Change.." to rebeam all beams to lyrics also for other lyers and other systems. This would be great!

Thank you Jari for your great tools!

I know this is off-topic but rebeaming to lyrics is a terribly outdated and unnecessary operation! It just makes understanding the rhythmic subdivisions in a measure more difficult to read and is at least partly responsible for modern singers' frequently abominable sense of rhythm. Beaming to lyrics was necessary in the past, when lyrics were written under the notes and the text placement would have been impossible to determine without it, but nowadays there's absolutely no need for it; singers really need to be reading rhythmic subdivisions just like all other musicians. Fortunately this is more and more the general consensus. See 'Behind Bars' by Elaine Gould, or the American Choral Society (I believe).

Vaughan,
That sounds somewhat contradictory! I agree that beaming to lyrics is an outmoded method. Consequently, you would expect that most current music is written with the notes beamed to the Time Signature. And, that most modern singers are using that music. And so I don't understand why you feel that modern singers having a lousy sense of rhythm is because of the music they use.

Most singers have been brought up reading editions with beaming to lyrics. Most traditional music is still published that way. Because the syllables tend to distort normal spacing, separate stems tend to make it very difficult to see rhythmic subdivisions. This is especially awful with recitatives: singers (and those of us who have to accompany them) see a skew of notes with flags, each taking up about the same horizontal space, despite the fact that 8ths, 16ths and 32nds are interspersed with one another. One of the results of this is that most singers just sing each note at approximately the same speed. OK, recitatives shouldn't be strictly metronomic but the composers did write certain rhythms for a reason and these tend to get ignored entirely by singers.

The reason it behaves that way is partly because of performance considerations for large regions (there are multiple ways to set notehead fonts and each method have to be scanned). But I'll write it down as a feature request and see if I can get an optimized version in the future. It will not change in the next update of that plug-in, though.

This is beyond the scope of JW Change, but it would fit in another plugin that I haven't released yet. I'll write this down as a feature request.

Thank you Jari.

I know, rebeaming to lyrics is maybe an outdated and unnecessary operation, but for me as singer reading of the lyrics is more better .I suppose, that notation beamed only to the Time Signature is not popular today because the most notation software (fortunately not Finale!) are missing this possibility.

Excuse my poorly english.

Your English is fine, Padruot! What might help you as a singer reading lyrics but also the rhythmic hierarchy would be to beam to the time signature but to use slurs for the melismatic syllables.
