Is this the way it is designed to work? I know it mentions default in the instructions, but I was just wondering if there was a chance.

P.S.: I did discover there is a way to choose by the number, and it will choose the right character for that slot for an independent font, so I have an easy workaround. "When all is said and done, more is said than done."

Most traditional music is still published that way. Because the syllables tend to distort normal spacing, separate stems tend to make it very difficult to see rhythmic subdivisions. This is especially awful with recitatives: singers (and those of us who have to accompany them) see a skew of notes with flags, each taking up about the same horizontal space, despite the fact that 8ths, 16ths and 32nds are interspersed with one another. One of the results of this is that most singers just sing each note at approximately the same speed. OK, recitatives shouldn't be strictly metronomic but the composers did write certain rhythms for a reason and these tend to get ignored entirely by singers. Vaughan
