I have Finale 2010 now, and Finale 25's new features alone aren't enough for me to upgrade, but perhaps the intervening versions did add things that I would benefit from.
Thanks | Back to Top | |

It becomes 64 bit, has moved a few things around menu-wise, and is considerably more robust.
just the handling of hairpins and smartshapes is radically different between versions 2012 and 2014/25. 2014 added a nice touch: the ability to repeat the insertion of an item (articulation or expression) by simply pressing the " - " key. This might not seem important, but when you find yourself having to add an articulation or expression to which you have not assigned a shortcut, it's a real time-saver.
Sadly, starting with Finale 2014 there is no longer support for the older Garritan libraries (Stradivari solo violin, and Gofriller solo cello), however, there seem to be very few people affected by this change. I guess those libraries are too old? I still use them so must keep Finale 2012 installed to do so. Finale (started with ver. 3.0) using 2012 (2014 has been shelved for its lack of support for older Garritan libraries), putting Finale 25 through its paces. Windows 8.1 basically ALL Garritan libraries, plus XSample Chamber Ensemble.

There is absolutely room for improvement in the intelligent spacing of smartshapes. I do hope they are working on a means of letting the user define various criteria for default endpoints, for when there are no dynamics, for when there are dynamics, for right barlines, etc...
