I'd like to be able to refer to a new feature list for each version of Finale in order
to decide whether to upgrade. I have Finale 2010 now, and Finale 25's new features
alone aren't enough for me to upgrade, but perhaps the intervening versions did add
things that I would benefit from.

Thanks

there is a massive difference between Finale 2010 and Finale 2012/2014.5/25
The changes brought in 2012 were added to with 2014, and version 25 while not seeming like a major change is actually quite a solid update. It becomes 64 bit, has moved a few things around menu-wise, and is considerably more robust.

just the handling of hairpins and smartshapes is radically different between versions 2012 and 2014/25.
2014 added a nice touch: the ability to repeat the insertion of an item (articulation or expression) by simply pressing the " - " key. This might not seem important, but when you find yourself having to add an articulation or expression to which you have not assigned a shortcut, it's a real time-saver.

Sadly, starting with Finale 2014 there is no longer support for the older Garritan libraries (Stradivari solo violin, and Gofriller solo cello), however, there seem to be very few people affected by this change. I guess those libraries are too old? I still use them so must keep Finale 2012 installed to do so.

Finale (started with ver. 3.0) using 2012 (2014 has been shelved for its lack of support for older Garritan libraries), putting Finale 25 through its paces.
Windows 8.1
basically ALL Garritan libraries, plus XSample Chamber Ensemble.

Also Unicode, the Score Manager (which simplifies things for some people) and the handling of hiding staves (redoing what used to be "Optimization").

The finaletips discussion is excellent. Some changes will matter to some people and not to others.

I'm not convinced the anchored hairpins are a good thing, but I have not done a major project with them.

The anchored smartshapes is actually nice when you create parts from a score. the spacing tends to follow that of the score, rather than having to redo it all in the parts.

Yeah, you're probably right, and I'm forever fixing hairpins when I make parts. The right anchor-points are problematic, as is the collision with dynamics, but it may well be the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Too back a little more thought wasn't put into it.

Most definitely, Motet, I agree with you there. There is absolutely room for improvement in the intelligent spacing of smartshapes.
I do hope they are working on a means of letting the user define various criteria for default endpoints, for when there are no dynamics, for when there are dynamics, for right barlines, etc...
