will anyone test Finale 2012 on Win X?

I'm not entirely convinced it's time to upgrade to Fin'14 yet. I have read too many people having various playback problems, HumanPlayback issues, and problems with libraries other than Garritan.

I make heavy use of XSample Chamber Ensemble, which still uses the old Kontakt Player.

By the way, why the heck doesn't MakeMusic buy out XSample???
Their library works beautifully with Finale, it came with a file that already had all the keyswitches ready. It was basically usable out of the box, like the Garritan products. With the major difference being that the XSample library is of a FAR higher sound quality and contains more effects and techniques.
It would seem that MakeMusic isn't in any sort of hurry to give us updates/upgrades of GPO with expanded playing techniques, sadly. This is where XSample comes in.

Finale (started with ver. 3.0) now using 2012 under Windows 8.1
basically ALL Garritan libraries, plus XSample Chamber Ensemble.

I'm using Finale 2012 on Windows 10 Preview. I have zero issues with Finale. Unfortunately, I have multiple issues with HP not releasing the drivers so I can have sound. Everything plays perfectly when I import files back to either my Vista or W8.1 machine, though.

There seem to be survivable work-arounds for all of those bugs, but really, after 20 months you would think they would have fixed these things.

The company puts most of its attention on SmartMusic because Finale doesn't sell very much. But Finale doesn't sell very much because it is not up to normal commercial quality standards. It is a vicious cycle.

Is MakeMusic or the company that acquired it still public? It might be interesting to look at their sales figures and see if that's actually true.

I think it is a private VC company.

In the past, one heard of schools and universities eagerly awaiting the new releases and the release cycle seemed to be built around having the product into their hands by the start of the school term. That cycle wound down 5 years ago or more. I rarely hear of any interest from schools anymore. Given the bad rep 2014 got, and the complete lack of transparency about the company's commitment to bring it up to commercial standards, I doubt they are selling many copies these days.

After many years of being a publicly held company, we are indeed now privately held.

I assure you that we are committed to restoring confidence in Finale, which is why we are remaining in 2014. We are focused on quality and are not rushing with the next release. The next version will be called Finale 2014.5 and will be a free upgrade for all Finale 2014 users. Finale 2014.5 focuses on improved performance and bug fixes. For more information, I'd refer you to my recent blog post: www.finalemusic.com/blog/mark-adler-and-whats-next-finale-2014-5/

That is indeed encouraging news. I've been a user since ver 1.0 (around 1992 I think). I've generated roughly 70,000 Finale files - I'd probably have to find a new line of work should Finale disappear
