Hi,

Document Settings -> Document Options ->
"Break Tablature Lines At Numbers" used to
work as you would expect, creating an easy
to read blank behind the number. Now, a
"shadow" is created that makes it difficult
to read.

Environment stuff:
Windows 98, SE
Finale 2002b
Arial plain for printing tablature
HP 970Cse and HP IIP (occurs printing to both)

Screen display looks fine.

Things tried with no effect:
- changed tab font to times and others
- removed and re-installed the printer
  drivers
- removed and re-installed Finale
- printed to two different printers
- printed off full character map of arial,
no character in the set like this
  rectangular, shaded box
- when I use arial for text in finale, the
  spaces between words look fine

I think whatever character is being used
to "break the line" has either been
corrupted or re-assigned either in Finale
or in the OS; all help and insight,
appreciated. Finale tech support was
ultimately unable to help me with this
issue about 9 months ago, we didn't get
it figured out, and I wound up re-installing
from the OS up -- I hope there's a better
way to solve it!

Bill:

Check out the attached and see if it prints correctly on your system.

I always use Helvetica 9 bold for the TAB numbers and I always break the TAB line at the numbers, and I don't have a problem printing. (Actually I do, but that's a Finale/XP/PostScript issue, nothing to do with the TAB.)

My printer driver is the HP 5000 PS and I use XP Pro. I'll be curious to see if this works for you.

Cheers.

Gary

Uh-oh...

Sounds like there's something screwy happening with your system, and unfortunately I have no clue as to what it is.

Good luck... I know how frustrating things like this can be and I hope you get it worked out somehow.

I have seen an issue like this where Windows was set to have a different video profile than the monitor was designed for. Try resetting your Video Profile back to the default, and see if that makes a difference.
