I finally installed the latest on this computer, a Mac Pro Quad 3GB. Finale seems totally outfitted for using a MIDI setup, which we do not own.
Does anyone know of or prefer a good quality, high res Mac compatible midi setup they could recommend?
For my limited preferences/needs: High res sound I would want. But complex, millions of channels I probably could live without. A great keyboard would be nice, maybe a small one and eventually a larger one.
Hopefully not to break the bank. Ideal would be a good keyboard and hi-res startup that could be gotten reasonably and added to if further needs arise.
I will not be doing any production or whatever with the setup. Just satisfying myself in my old age.
Thanks,

I would like another like it but I found a used keyboard at Goodwill for $8.00. It did not work when we tried plugging it in but I put some batteries in it and it worked. Not touch sensitive but it has MIDI. Check around eBay, junk and pawn shops, and Goodwill. You may find something that will take you till you're ready for the next level! | Back to Top

I hear you.
I have thought this over and, since I am a Juilliard trained orchestra conductor, my thoughts are that I probably should put out some of the bucks necessary to get a really nice keyboard.
Any ideas, anyone?
Thanks again,

No recommendations for a great keyboard for Finale/MIDI for the price....or for whatever price?
It would really be a help, as I know nothing about these things. But I am sensitive and used to mechanically excellent devices.
Thanks,

You probably aren't getting many replies because you have posted in the section of the forum for developing plug-in software for Finale. I suggest you post in the Mac section.
Many MIDI keyboards these days are USB, and plug straight into a Mac, sometimes without need of driver software.
I guess you then need to decide whether you want a keyboard that includes samples, or just a dummy keyboard to play into the computer, and let the computer generate the audio. Also you need to decide whether you want a professional 'weighted' keyboard, like a proper piano, that records how hard you hit the key very accurately, or if you want a standard keyboard that will record this data, but feel a bit different to play.
You may want an Audio/MIDI box, which connects to MIDI equipment, and also connects your Mac to Audio equipment, providing high quality inputs and output to mics and speakers, mixing desks etc.
Korg are a good maker of keyboards, including the new Nano keyboard. Mmm. M-Audio make Midi and audio hardware, as well as some keyboards. Yamaha make good reliable kit. Finale 2009a, 2Ghz iMac, OS X 10.5.5, M-Audio Audiophile USB Ancient Groove Music www.ancientgroove.co.uk | Back to Top

Great help.
I see that I have a lot to learn.
But Korg and Yamaha I know and could trust.
Thanks again,
